You could try to open the graphics and see if the date / timesteps are changing.

At least this would let you know if the model is running.

Hmmm.
I wonder how much effect the increased volume of the oceans would have on global temps and climate as the ice caps melt.

I\'d expect the greater volume to be able to store more heat and CO2 thus slowing down the change. But I\'m no scientist / climateologist so really I have no idea.

Most of the models sent out at the moment a coupled models.

So your model will send up a trickle on the 1/12/each year.

You will be credited with about 226 cobblestone\'s per trickle.

As was stated the program to grant credit only runs once or twice a day, so your credit is not granted immediatly as with some other projects if the quorum is reached.

Don\'t worry about it to much, your credit will be granted.

With slab and sulphur, the intermediate trickles just said: \"I\'m still running, and this is where I\'m up to\". The data was in the end of phase uploads, all uploaded on completion of the model.

They also worked differently; if you missed a few trickles, when the next trickle IS received, the server software says: \"This is trickle No. nn, which means that there should be xx credits issued so far for this model. There are less than this, so this model gets THIS amount of credits right now.\"
The only problem was if an end of phase upload went missing; then the data for that phase would be permanently lost.

The new TCMs are different; EACH trickle contains data, hence the gaps if some go missing. But credits will be continuously calculated, the same way as with slab and sulphur.

Thanks Les.
So the gaps are there to stay. Seams strange cause to trickle\'s on the TCM were done seperatly. I would have though the data would still be there, But on consideration, All those trickles for everyone, Thats a LOT of data.
Oh well

Carl\'s hard work has got my models caught up in regards to trickles, Thanks mate, I was getting a bit worried.

[mutter mode]
Mongrel hackers
[/mutter mode]

However after looking at my two coupled models, the graphs have holes in them for the delayed trickles. Credit however has been given. The other Sulpher model has all data.

My question is this.
Will this gap affect the result data?
Will this data be recovered from the 10year upload?
Should I worry about this?

Right, folks are a bit more restrained in response to things compared to SETI for sure...

It comes from the WU size I think, We don\'t often get 20plus WU\'s at a time lined up to report. Think of the credit if we could.... :)

On a side note, I wonder if it is possible to find out it trickle updates are being processed quicker than new trickles are coming in.
This is just an idle thought on my part not a request of the project staff. They are busy enough as it is without me bothering them.

Hi Jim K and Kilcock.

So the workunits here in the database/file status are wrong?
Sorry to seam a little dense about this but I\'m confused.
I\'m trying to sort out how long it will take for the trickles to catch up.

In other projects a workuint is what it is.
Here is a workunit a trickle or the entire model?

Reason I ask this is that from the server stats page the \"Workunits waiting for validation\" stat is at 90,700 odd and rising. If workunits are trickles then I would hope that this stat would be falling.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanking you

On a side note, I noticed that you are not in a team at the moment. If you decide to join one, have a look at BOINC@Australia.

Ah, you Aussies are so sneaky with your signatures. See mray, you can\'t even see peterthomas\' sig - they are using stealth technology. But don\'t look at my sig, and I promise not to look at yours (join a team with a nice picture in the sig. not an invisible one :) g\'day Peterthomas :) (click on the boat)

Hi iXant.
Yes I do have a sig, with a picture about our team, I just choose not to use it every time I try to help another person out. But just for you, I\'ll add my sig to this post.

P.S Someone using your tag, ie iXant, was spoted wandering around the BOINC@Australia forums reciently.

climateprediction.net should be the original progect however this does not really matter as both CPDN and BBC CPDN are currently running the same model.
That being the coupled ocean model.

You can check this by looking at the application column in the Work tab of Boinc Manager. Should be hadcm3lb 5.08 or maybe a later version.

Hope this helps

I am now three days behind, having just sent up my 80% mark and only have 93 tickles, so how long before everyone is up to date?

It could be a while. Give it a week or 10 days.
Then we can start jumping up and down :)

Remember that the models actually start from end 1920/start 1921.
So your model has crunched for about 6 months. Your first trickle should be on the 1/12/1921.

I think this confusion is from the stated run times. ie model run from 1920 for 160 years to 2080.

In the moment my model is on 25/05/1921 00:30 with 12529 of 4147560 timesteps, progress at 0.30 %.

Trickles occur on the 1/12/ of model year. I\'m sure someone will correct me if this is wrong, but I think it is at the end of the day rather than the start.

This is ever 0.625% of the model.
Therefore from your status you are currently 1/2 way to your first trickle.

Don\'t worry to much about this at the moment, just keep working away.

P.S Also don\'t worry if you get credit for your trickle straight away after sending it up.
The server suite at CPDN has been upgraded recently and is currently a little slow working through the backlog of trickles. Project staff have said that the situation will fix itself over the next week as the server catch up.

How far behind are the servers?

I, for one, don\'t know. Possibly only Carl does.

It has to be remembered that the huge influx of new modelers from the BBC part of it, have over whelmed the servers that have been used for years. A big new trickle server has arrived, and it may prove necessary to seek funds to replace/add to, the other servers as well.

Oh, well. If they want more people to get involved, they need more space to store the data.

Thanks for the info Les

So any trickles sent over the last few days will gradually be updated to the models/results as the servers catch up on the workload? It just may take another couple of days.

Is that right?

Generally I just move old completed/crashed (none yet) models to another location until I have enough to fill a DVD then burn them off.

This keeps the CPDN Boinc Directory under 1.5 to 2 gig.
