1) Questions and Answers : Windows : \"WU sent\" shown in Results, but no WU downloaded on Computer (Message 28446)

Hi Nowi,

If you are by chance using version 5.9.7, there was a bug that causes the \"No app version for result: windows_intelx86 -1\" message.

It was reported here, and the fix will be in the next version.

2) Questions and Answers : Windows : \'No space left on device\' error (Message 28243)

I have the same problem and have backed off for 3 days to give time for the problem to be solved but I retried this morning I got the same error message that there is no room on the device.

See mo.v\'s post in the Number crunching section. And the discussion which follows...

Chris,

Willy at BOINCstats is installing a new server, and as best I understand, some of his tables are being moved at different times, so results and totals will be out of sync there for a bit longer...
4) Questions and Answers : Windows : screen saver problem (Message 27720)
Posted 4 Apr 2007 by old_user93405
Post:
Hi,

At the bottom of this page, it says:
Normally, if you press a key or move the mouse while the screensaver is active, the screensaver will exit. Some BOINC applications handle keyboard/mouse input. If you hold down the control key, any additional input will be passed to the application, and your computer will remain in screensaver mode.

So if holding down control doesn\'t work, it may be because CPDN hasn\'t implemented the key handling?
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Trojan boinc installation by rogue member (Message 27460)

Post:
Amazingly, alone among projects, predictor at home is still accepting results from Wate, with a RAC of over 1000.

Indeed, Dotsch posted at BOINCstats, that the admin there has refused to close the account, and has in fact locked threads suggesting that he should delete Wate. Including the thread containing the repost of mo.v\'s original notice.

This is the admin\'s post referred to by Dotsch:
This thread is closed. Please do not create a new one.

Since this thread was first created I have deleted two other threads incorrectly accusing volunteers of cheating.

If someone has installed the boinc client on machines that they do not have permission to that is wrong. I have no way of knowing if this has or hasn\'t happened. Just because \"some guy\" posted something on the internet is not good enough reason to take any action against anyone.

I find this incredible, to say the least. It is true that the reposters of mo.v\'s authoritative and excellent exposition (and expose) of Wate\'s perfidy did not credit her as the author, but anyone reading that post, including the copy posted at predictor, could clearly see that it was not from \"some guy.\" Let alone if they had read any of the linked material at any of the projects.

As Dorsch mentioned, there is a thread, as yet unlocked, responding to the admin\'s decision not to ban this despicable person. Hopefully, Mo or someone from here can inform the folks at P@H that this is a serious matter, handled responsibly in the first instance by the BOINC devs and CPDN staff, and thenceforth by every other project except his.

And a new version of the current TCMs is currently being tested.

Hi Les,

I have a model about to (hopefully!!!) finish* -- should I wait for the new version before getting new work?

(Apologies if this has been asked on the php board -- I just don\'t have time to read/search it anymore. If it has been asked here, then I\'m an idiot. :) )

7) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC Version 5.8.8 Released (Message 26749)

The official version is now 5.8.11. Not sure if it fixes all the things discussed here, but it does correct the Duration Correction Factor errors that happened with 5.8.8.

I\'ve used it for about a day (when it was beta) and have had no problems.

Hi,

I just wanted to add a few things to azazul\'s post above about the BAUT team. And thanks to Raven for the thread. :)

In addition to climateprediction.net, BAUT has teams for

Einstein@Home
LHC@Home
seti@home
predictor@home
and orbit@home
with rosetta@home possible soon.

Obviously, the emphasis of the BAUT message board is astronomy and space, but with 11,000 members, it has many knowledgeable people who post about general scientific topics, as well as a lively and well-moderated off-topic area.

There are indeed a few climate sceptics who post in the global warming threads, but the discussion is always civil.

So the BAUT team offers a one-stop shop for discussion of team matters, BOINC projects in general, and any topic in science.

If you don\'t care to join the team, but do have an interest in matters astronomical, there\'s no better place on the net than the BAUT forum, in my really biased opinion. :)
