1) Message boards : Cafe CPDN : BOINC Linux visualisation beta testers (Message 11083)

Post:
For those with an eye on the boards will have noticed a call for Windows and MAC visualisation beta testers. Now it is the turn of Linux. The main requirement is that you have a broad band connection as the files you require are about 135Mb (the final version can be packaged up to much much smaller than this).

Most of the obvious bugs have been ironed out from the Windows version but we are very keen to make sure that it works for a wide range of linux boxes before we release it formally.

If you would like to beta test the new visualisation package, have a Linux box running BOINC, have a broadband connection (or plenty of spare time!) and have a couple of hours spare in the near future can you email cpdn_support@tessella.com.

Cheers,

Colin

As some of you may know the ClimatePrediction team have been developing an advanced visualisation package to view the data produced by the models. In an effort to support as many platforms as possible we have ported this to the MAC. We've beta tested on Windows and had some very good feedback from the users. These ideas have, for the most part, been included into the code but we are keen to try out the package on some willing MAC users.

To beta test the package you need the following:

1) A MAC with OX 10.3 or higher
2) Broadband (downloading the virtual machine for IDL is 125Mb - the final version will be packaged much smaller)
3) A model running with BOINC and ideally a finished experiment
4) Some time to try and 'break' the application

If your are interested please email

cpdn_support "at" tessella "dot" com

Cheers,

Colin

For those who formed our beta testing team you can have a look at the 'almost' final version for this release. We've tried to complete as many of your suggestions as possible but due to a limit on time we have inevitably had to place about a third of them on a 'nice to have' list for the next version.

The required files are now:

AdvancedVisualisation.sav
button_images.sav
shared_mem_dd.dll
splash_vis.bmp

and the folder 'Help'

all need to be copied to your project folder as before and you need to run 'AdvancedVisualisation.sav'.

Please don't post the ftp site or password anywhere as this is not quite the final release yet. I've had to post a general message as I can't PM you on this board.

Please email cpdn_support@tessella.com with any final comments, but we would be most interested in any errors generated.

Thanks once again,

Colin

Well rememebered Honza, I believe I set the time of D minute to be noon, and if not it is now. So far I'm looking a bit over, but not as much as UK_Nick, and Honza appears to have been able to read the future!
