1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : How to assign a priority to one task/project (Message 42754)
Posted 4 Aug 2011 by old_user87683
Post:
You can give a project a higher share of CPU time by adjusting the \'resource shares\' of the project. They start at 100 each, so if you change one of them to \'300\', then the adjusted project will be getting 3 times the CPU time of the other project.

This is done via the website:
* Your account / participant
* (Project) preferences
* Edit
* Adjust resource share to whatever you want
* Save

Now go to the Boinc manager
* \'Projects\' tab
* Click once on the project you changed the settings for
* \'Update\' button

I am stuck, as well.

The ability to EDIT project preferences seems to no longer exist.
Running two projects, ClimatePrediction and Malaria (new to both). Malaria shows a 100 resource share will CP is only 1.
To get CP to run at all, I've stopped receiving Malaria tasks completely. Effective but not desirable long-term.
I really want to change this but can find no way of doing so in the manager or in my account settings (even after reading these posts). I've been through both repeatedly and found no solution. What am I missing? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Found the answer: The EDIT is on the BOINC pages, not on the CP.net site.
2) Questions and Answers : Windows : Win98 now crashing on HADSM3 4.13 WU\'s (Message 16707)

Not even Microsoft supports Win98 anymore.
Well, mostly true. They still support as far as bug fixes, etc. are concerned.

Win98/ME hasn\'t worked with cpdn since March. I could be wrong, but unless there is a windfall of free time for the IT people, I doubt that CPDN will ever work again with those OS\'s.

So you\'re saying I AM an ugly, smelly, stupid, unwanted, red-headed stepchild? :)
Kinda figured that but had to ask. I WAS planning on upgrading soon to Win98 SE. Guess I\'ll need to go a bit further to continue with the project, huh? :>

I finally stopped receiving Sulphur Cycle WU\'s and got back to the HADSM ones, and they crash too! What a poor fellow to do? I just wanna use my CPU cycles for something that will actually help the planet and I can\'t.
I\'m running 4.45. Do I need to reinstall, install the 5.2.2 or is Win98 just the ugly, unwanted, red-headed stepchild of CPDN? SETI has no problems at all but the aliens are still hiding really, REALLY well.

Any updates on this issue? I tried another WU and got a SC one. It crashed after 2 hours. At least SETI is back up so my CPU cycles aren't going to waste anymore.

&gt; Also, see <a> href="http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Sulphur_Cycle"&gt; this</a>
&gt; entry in the Wiki.
&gt;
&gt; Classic, (non BOINC), cpdn still works with Win98.
&gt; And, when Carl starts work on Monday, he is going to look into why the server
&gt; is giving Sulphur to old / under powered systems instead of slab models.

Well, my machine isn't underpowered as all the internals have been upgraded. A 2600+ Athlon chip &amp; 1/2 GB of RAM, but the original HDD still had the original Win98 OS so I left it alone. Hadn't been any problems (until now, apparently).

Can Classic still be downloaded or am I S.O.L.? If it can, will it run OK with BOINC? I am running BOINC v.4.45 for SETI, don't see why it won't work for CPDN.

Thanks for the quick answer and thank Carl for me too.

Been running BOINC for at least a year with SETI and added CPDN in July. Got some results before the version 4.13 errors started crashing all the data. Saw there was a new version, 4.19, out so I re-enabled CPDN and spent 2 1/2 hours (dialup) downloading it and a new WU.
Well, it crashed too. Now I see that there is a version 4.45 (which I got previously from SETI) for Win2K &amp; XP and a 4.43 for Linux/x86. I know this sounds stoopid, but my machine is an x86 (ok, Athlon 2600+ XP) but running lowly Windows 98, not 2K or XP.
Should I even bother downloading the \"new\" version (which I already have), and if so, which one?

As for the crash with the new data, here\'s my log entries.

&gt; "Once a day" is to put the brakes on unattended computers which crash a model
&gt; and then download another parameter set. And again, and again, etc.
&gt;
&gt; Basically, hadsm 4.13 was to fix the problems that some people had with the
&gt; graphics on ATI cards.
&gt; Unfortunately, it has caused several different problems for almost everyone.
&gt;
&gt; Never fear, Carl is here.
&gt; Standby for a fix.
&gt;
Well, that makes sense, figuring the program should take many weeks/months to complete (guessing, as none have ever "completed". Still not sure how I've gotten any credit).
I've suspended the project until a fixed is out there. At least I've got SETI to fall back to (assuming they're done fixing their power issues). Gotta laugh, insanity demands it. :&gt;

I've been having the same problem for a couple of weeks! In fact, only my first few WU's completed. Am running SETI as well (have been for years) and it has been working fine. I've reset the project at least 5 times so far with no change. I've adjusted preferences repeatedly, no help there either.

These are my two most recent failures.
