Sorry but Yes, it's all done now and dinosaur and CPDN are on the same page. Using my self-isolation to deal with those 'I'll do that later' tasks. The 'Sort computer out' entry is taking longer than I thought.

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks to both of you for the fast and comprehensive replies. Hopefully some work will get generated so I can start to get more tasks completed.

My system crashed quite badly after a power cut. Upon restarting I had to do quite a bit of work to get her happy. My account lists lots of work in progress but there is nothing on BOINC?
As several jobs were part-run is there a way of getting them back as CPDN isn't running on my system at all.

The one good thing to come out of all this is finally tracking down a recurring issue that caused these crashes, and fixing it.

Cheers
Nick the formerly frustrated.

Just got a single unit which died while somebody else was crunching it. That'll be a good enough test I think. If not then the argument for a new system becomes moot!

Arising from earlier posts; I have been having problems running CPDN which I have finally resolved (dry joint on MB and intermittent PSU fault), will this mean my 'reliability score' improves or will my system remain on the Bad Boy list?

What I'd really like is to be able to reload a failed task and rerun it to make sure.

My puny little machine seems to be behaving itself a lot better now.

Thanks to all for the effort to fix this irritating issue.

Drat! I thought it may have been the vital clue that everybody had overlooked :-(

Still going but the system seems to be doing CPDN work as an aside to other tasks.

Isn't it surprising that the available tasks queue is not reducing more quickly? I imagine that a lot volunteers either suspended CPDN or set 'no new tasks' when we were having lots of problems and haven't bothered to reset their account.

I think part of the answer may be the credit addicts who have suspended CPDN and are waiting for it to start crediting before rejoining. These users tend to have the most powerful systems so the loss of one is disproportionate.

Imagine CPDN was a car, no matter how much you loved it there would come a point when all the niggling faults became too much and you'd be down the dealers looking for the best deal.

BTW There are several in the BOINC tables around me that picked up credits on 17/8, but only on that day. Any relevance?

Serendipity raises her head again. I've just been working at a house where the owner was resetting her Sony DVD for the third time. It seems to be a repeat problem and she has no clue what triggers it again. Needless to say Sony is off her supplier list now.

Ebay have a similar support policy according to several heavy users I know.....

Way back there was discussion about whether to have credit or not IIRC, perhaps a decision has been made by somebody who hasn't informed others?

The problem is that it's going to be a pain managing multiple projects. I run six as they all drop in and out of work and my systems are on 24/7 for work anyway.

Very frustrating for Crunch Heads who tend to have good systems I'd imagine.

I would just like to give a big pat on the back to the project team at climateprediction.net and to thank all of the crew for all your long hours of hard work.
Take whatever time you need to safely do what you think needs to be done in the interests of climateprediction Science.

Best Wishes
Byron

I'll agree with that. I think I've caused as many issues for them recently with WUs not downloading properly and then on to my old SSE1 system as well. Hopefully with the new server we can all get back to useful work. I can do science me!!

It must be frustrating to have work and then not be able to upload it but chin up people there seems to be light ahead.
