It seems to be working now

I'm sure Les will clarify but my backlog cleared.

Why don't they cancel the batch from the server and cancel the units from the machines ?

Yep. There's a facility to do this. Other projects like WCG do it if a WU is not needed due to a quorum being met by a late returning WU. I'm not sure whether it works on tasks that are already in progress on a host.

Hopefully the project folk here can sort it.

Note to all:

All batch 781 tasks can be aborted.

Could this be sent to Boinc Managers automatically by the server?

Hmmmmmmmm.

I have 7 listed as in progress on here but actually only have two still crunching.
The rest should have been reported.
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Fortran error in HadCM3 short models (Message 57432)

I got the following error in three UK Met Office HadCM3 short models. Third one running okay so far.

Task 20912062
Task 20912065
Task 20912064
6) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit Status (Message 57215)

Post:
Hear hear.

I've never understood the obsession with credits.

Credits are and always will just a measure of showing your dedication to a project.

The science is infinitely more important than a number which means nothing much to anyone else except "oh I see he's crunched more than me".

Put up a big fortran run time error box. Forgot to screenshot it before I quit it. D'oh!

It needs a kick up the backside.

Just under 2,000 WUs available a no way to report them. Currently got two queued and a third on the way.

Okay will do.......

As you can tell from my results I\'ve not managed to actually finish a model without it erroring out or me having to abort it.

I\'m hoping to change this :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Should I continue with this model as it already greatly exceeds the server settings for total results.

My backup method:

Suspended the project in the Tasks tab.
Exit BOINC.
Navigate to the folder containing the BOINC folder.
Delete any existing backup.
Right-click on the BOINC folder and create a ZIP file of it (I use WinRAR).
(Creating a RAR file takes a lot longer on my system)
Start up BOINC again and resume crunching.
Only takes a couple of minutes tops......I do it daily (when I remember)

To restore the backup I just delete the BOINC folder and unzip the zip file.
Back crunching again within a minute.

I\'m only crunching CPDN so I don\'t have other project WUs to worry about.
15) Message boards : Number crunching : How far along are you??? (Message 23604)

I got my WU on 6th June and I\'m almost 5% through (almost December 1928).

After numerous failed attempts I\'ve managed to stabilise a WU and actually get some decent crunching done and keeping backups too. Only had to restore once.

I\'m not crunching as fast as I should because my PC gets quite hot........especially if I\'m crunching and working at the same time (and during hot spells of weather).

I\'m mostly crunching at night.

Are you actually using that computer???

I kept having this problem and now take regular backups of the BOINC folder.

I had a -161 error which manifested at the same time I was viewing a Real Video on the BBC News website.

Someone suggested it might be something to do with graphics card even though I didn\'t have the screensaver graphics running.

I reckon it\'s either that or memory related.....if something hogs the memory or cpu long enough to cause the fatal error.

I suggest you take backups if poss. Suspend the task, exit BOINC and create a backup (I just zip the folder), then restart BOINC and resume the project......2 minutes tops.
17) Message boards : Number crunching : Should I quit CPDN? (Message 23066)

Making a backup is easy...........I do it once a day if I remember.

I just suspended the WU, exit BOINC and then zip up the entire BOINC folder.

I\'m only running CPDN so it doesn\'t affect any other projects.
18) Message boards : Number crunching : Boinc still trying to send trickle although trickle already sent (Message 23040)
Posted 6 Jun 2006 by KWSN Sir Clark
Post:
The trickle was uploaded and the model was progressing normally.

Unfortunately it failed when I loaded a video file off another website (the -161 error) which was probably graphics card related.

I forgot I had a backup and it reported the model as completed with error.

Got a new model crunching nicely and will take regular backups. Will see if the same thing happens with this model. I\'ve got it set to network activity suspended so it\'ll upload the trickles when I\'m awake :)

My Boinc manager (5.4.9) is still repeatedly sending the first trickle of my model (Result ID 5475564) even though it\'s already been sent and successfully receieved (I even have credits for it)

Just thought I\'d give you a heads-up in case it\'s a minor server blip.
20) Message boards : Number crunching : Can\'t trickle in (Message 22542)
Posted 1 May 2006 by KWSN Sir Clark
Post:
I got this on my previous trickle and I got the same on my last trickle.

Both received fine by the server so no problems with that.

I\'m just going to leave it until the model\'s finished.
