It looks as this is going to have to wait until Friday morning PDT.

For those who have not yet experienced a major version upgrade, what will hapen is this.

The project will be brought down while the server-side binaries are upgraded. Between now and then you can let your caches drain by setting your preferences to minimum of 0 days and maximum of 0 days. Then update the project to pull down the new perferences.

When the server comes back online it'll have the new 4.x clients. When you install it, it'll rebenchmark your machine and dump any workunits that remain.

Other than that, it'll look just like the 3.x client.

2) Message boards : Number crunching : Welcome to Open BOINC CPDN... (Message 1802)

> I dont't think CPDN is a "backup" project. I was crunching for SETI for almost
> an year. Recently I decided to move on to the BOINC and I signed almost
> simultaneously to both SETI and CPDN despite the clients wasn't compatible. At
> the moment I'm using both clients 3.20 and 4.03 for both projects. There is no
> doubt that the users will increase once 4.xx for SETI is released.

I in NO WAY meant to imply CPDN is a "backup" project. All the BOINC projects are very (I think) very valuable and different in their interests to individuals.

Individuals will have their own preferences as to what resource sharing. I know many SETI hardcore fanatics that will run SETI:Pred:CPDN 98:1:1, but I also know many CPDN fanatics that will run SETI:Pred:CPDN 1:1:98.

Multiple projects on one platform is a distributed dream, not only for the developers, but of individuals. Finally we can pick and chose as individuals, without the hassle of one program hogging the CPU time.

Whatever indviduals choose, everyone wins in my book.

Exciting times.
