1) Message boards : Number crunching : New WU coming? (Message 53170)

My little Linux server is getting hungry for work. I'm now working a lot more SETI than CPDN. Any ideas when new Linux WU are coming?

As suggested by the two previous posts, maybe it's time to get a combined undergrad/grad project for the Oxford Computer Science department to recode a brand new infrastructure from scratch. It would give hands-on to the students and solve the real-world problems we're seeing with the project. As an added bonus, the code would probably be more efficient and easy to troubleshoot. Win-Win.

Woo Hoo! boinc.netsoft-online picked up CPDN credits. The credits picked are a bit old but it sure beats the flatline we've been seeing for the past months. I guess James Drews responded. Great job guys!

boinc.netsoft-online.com has been flatlined for CPDN since january-february. Can a notice be sent to them to tell them where the stats files are located.

Will the credit and trickle credit problem ever get solved? My server is happily crunching away, but no credits, not even in the Boinc client, nothing , nada, flat-line...(Sorry one huge credit bump in May) This is by far the lengthiest on again off again credit problem since I joined in 2005. Enough is enough, solve the problem already.

(to be read out loud with a deep TV advert type voice)

May 22nd 2014, the end of session for most undergrads.
Will some they hang around and sort this out?
Will the grad students fix this during the summer?
Will the project people read the forums and realize they have a problem?
Will the admins catch a break long enough to fix this problem?

Stay tuned for ongoing turmoils at CPDN and catch all new episodes starting next fall. ;)

Any news about the credits not showing up on external sites? Mine are still locked in from when I restarted Boinc after upgrading my server back in January...mind you I only got new tasks from mid March on. Server is happily crunching like mad, credits show up no CPDN, but not anywhere else.

Just to follow up,

No the computer is not overclocked.

I aborted the slow running model.
I added the SETI@Home project to confirm that it was not my local Boinc software that was unstable. This was running fine.
I changed the settings to us HADAM3P tasks and ever since, the CPDN project tasks have been running normally.
If anything comes up about why this happened, I would like to know just out of curiosity.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Ive got one model only presently running, task ID 10446381 (name in task managerhadsm3dhet2_u22p_006479987_5).

I did two aborts, one on the 15th and one on the 28th. On both dates, the task I got when I aborted were not starting properly. I got iceworlds very quickly. So I aborted those (rwo on each occasion). The ones that did start ok I let run. But they ran very slowly even if the graphics did not show an iceworld.

The computer is basically a file server for my home studio. The only real computing it does is for Boinc running only CPDN.

The last changes done to this computer was early 2009 when I installed more RAM, changed HDD and added and external drive. It has been happily running Boinc until early october when I noticed the stats going down. That is when I checked and found the very slow running model. I\'ve been having this problem since then.

I\'m running Boinc 6.4.7 on a Linux Fedora Core 9.
I\'m running an HADSM3DHET model. The graphics look OK (not an iceworld) but I\'ve been running this model for almost a month now 24/7 at 95% CPU and only get:

CPU Time 7:19:14
Progress 0.896%
To Completion: 1831:51:07 (and climbing)

The model is in Phase 1 of 3, 6969 of 259248 timesteps.

I\'ve run into this problem on the last 2-3 models and aborted them after a week or so. I decided to give this one a longer run before aborting.
There are no trickles even when a force an update. Needless to say my credits have flatlined.
Anybody have any ideas about what is going on?
11) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Fedora 2 to Fedora 9 huge computation speed decrease (Message 36252)

Les,
Thanks I didn\'t know that model variability was taken into account when assessing credits for the work.

mo.V,
Now that would explain why my average credit (or work done) is so low. Thanks.
Like I stated my backup failed, so all the Boinc related files where lost prior to Feb 7th. When I reconnected to CDPN, the HADCMivolc was never reassigned probably because my computer was now seen as a new computer. I have since merged the \"two\" computers back into a single.
How would I go about restarting the HADCMivolc model to allow it to work to completion without having any old files available?

On a side note: all the moderators here rock!
I\'m impressed with your speed of responses and your answers. I have friends who are running other Boinc projects and the support they get just makes me that much happier to be with CPDN.

Clarifications:
I cleared the local pref as suggested by Les.
I updated my server on the weekend of Feb 7-8.
The speed decrease I was referring to is the \"Work Done\" displayed in the manager and used for all team/world rankings. Previously, the work done was always about the 185 mark. Now the Work done is sitting at the 38 mark.
I merged the 2 computer accounts 2 days ago since they were both for the same computer.

Les, is this the new benchmarking you where referring to? If it is, it\'s havoc on team/world rankings.

Geophi, Unfortunately I ran into some problems with my backup and was unable to recover the Boinc files from before the upgrade. So the previous models are toast. The s/TS has a lot of variations based on the model being worked on. This should not be a gauge of how much work is being done by a single computer since the model itself is the big variable.

I just did a major upgrade on the home server from Fecora Core 2 to Fedora Core 9. I\'m using the same motherboard and HD, but I kicked up the RAM to 2Gb.
I installed Boinc 5.2 and hooked up to the CPDN as before.
Now I\'m getting about 50% less computations with the same preferences as before.
Does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong? I\'m stumped.
Thanks
