1) Message boards : Number crunching : Why no credit in Statistics? (Message 58702)

Looks that way.

I have approximately 30 tasks missing from my task list (which may or may not have been lost), and another 10 tasks which were returned earlier, for which credit was not received.

One can only hope...
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Lots of pending WUs (Message 58668)

Collatz
GPUGRID
Moo! Wrapper
World Community Grid (compares if you return errors)
Rosetta

None of the above compare work units from different users and yet none of the tasks are listed as 'pending validation'

So I think the BOINC software does have such an option.

CPDN must be doing something wrong.

A project of this importance in this day and age needs to run better.

I am sure that Andy is doing as best he can to restore the project but maybe there is only so much he can do with what he has available.

What will it take to make this project run better?

A funding drive to improve or replace the infrastructure, hire permanent staff, reprogram the applications?

The last thing I want is to see this project collapse because currently I do not think there is a better climate change project out there, but I fear this could become a reality if the current problems or lack of resources continue to plague the project.

You always have the option of running something else. Why don't you chase asteroids for a while. I understand WCG is starting a climate change project. In a few months you will have a choice.

I have been chasing Asteroids for over 3 years already. :)

However, I prefer to run a project where the benefit to humanity is more immediate, as is currently the case with climate change.

Don't get me wrong. I think Climateprediction.net is a great project. It's just a pity that it cannot be run better.

What happened ???

The expected happened.

Climateprediction.net must hold the honour of probably being the worst maintained project in BOINC history.

Having read through this thread, my conclusion is that the people running the project don't care enough about us number crunchers to communicate directly with us. All the information we get - whether about credit or problems with the project - seems to come from volunteers/moderators (for which many thanks).

Totally agree with Grahamt.

What may be even more disturbing is that they may not have the people with the skills to solve this problem, and that months may go by before they finally decide to bring in someone who can fix the problem.

Even worse than the above, is that all the CPU cycles I am currently donating to this project will be wasted if this problem is never solved and the project goes under.

I plan to do the same as Grahamt. Let my current CPDN units complete and hopefully, by then, WCG will have started their own Climate Change Research projects.
