Hi!

Sorry if this is off topic, but is it possible to post things like this on the News boards as well?

I use an RSS reader that delivers news items from various BOINC projects. The news is delivered when a new thread is created in the project's news section. BOINCStats also uses this method to fetch project news, like so: https://boincstats.com/en/page/projectNews

If news is announced in an existing thread, only those who frequent it will hear about it. Ultimately I think it could be helpful for communicating CPDN's news to the greater BOINC community. Cheers!

They are but different arrows pointing to the same place, if you have a favourite choose it !

The reason I ask is that the Gridcoin project would likely require a single consistent location to fetch stats from, in order to be whitelisted again. I'm not sure what the idea is behind having two different locations for the data, but it would probably be an easy fix.

Also, I looked into it and the consensus seems to be that stats would have to be exported every 2 days in order to meet the whitelist requirements (which are themselves being regularly refined). This is due to the Gridcoin reward mechanism polling stats on various projects daily, and may enable users to game the system if a given project does not at least near that mark. Looking here, it seems the regular interval has been 7-8 days, and then an anomalous 20-day period occurred recently: https://boincstats.com/en/stats/2/project/detail/credit

Unless you are a member of the Gridcoin community, this would not affect you. But there is quite a considerable amount of computation power within that team, that I'm sure CPDN would appreciate having on board.

When they (CPDN website) are up and running the updates occur over the weekend (Sat/Sun) and you can see one has happened today at...

https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/stats/[/quote]

I see.

Also, I found This post https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=8515&postid=57474 indicating stats are reported between two links interchangeably. Looking at both links (http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/stats/), this seems to be the case.

Are there plans to have just one link in the future for the stats?

Hi, do we have any further update on the credit reporting frequency? Is it still occurring on a consistent weekly basis?

Edit: Also, why do the stats here https://www.climateprediction.net/stats/ Show export dates of 2015?

Thanks for the response.

I personally look at CPDN at a different angle. I feel this is a valuable project and having more exposure (through places such as Gridcoin) would do wonders for this research. I've been crunching BOINC projects for over a decade, so the money while nice, has never been the main reason I contribute.

As far as making the whitelist, I believe SSL security with the GRC network is the primary concern. There are projects which previously ran out of work, and were temporarily removed from the whitelist for that time. Projects can always be voted back in when work becomes abundant once again.

I keep reading more articles that describe how poorly this planet is doing.. Hopefully Oxford makes this switch in the near future!

and that difference is intended specifically to reward users whose models might fail before completion; this method is computationally onerous and has ultimately resulted in the weekly updates.

I'm not too familiar with the way CPDN operates. But why wouldn't the sensible approach to credits be to only reward successfully completed work units?

That way, in the case of CPDN offering week-long work units, there would be much less bandwidth needed if reporting on a daily basis for only the ones which have been successfully completed.

Also, it raises another question in me. If a user is rewarded for half of a work unit which then fails, and another user receives that unit and completes it, why should both be rewarded for the same work done? That seems to undermine the credits given out altogether.
8) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC cannot connect to Project when part of Gridcoin Pool (Message 54815)

Post:
I'm currently crunching as part of the Gridcoin pool on BOINC. I have a number of projects attached to this account manager, including Climate Prediction.

All of these projects are functioning normally, except for CP. Downloading work units, reporting, etc. BOINC does not seem to be able to connect to ClimatePrediction when part of the Gridcoin pool.

I have previously been able to crunch work units for Climate Prediction outside of the pool without issue. In the BOINC manager event log, the last message shown is "Attaching to http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/ " And does not progress from there.

Does anyone have ideas as to why this is happening?
