3) Message boards : Number crunching : Upload server is out of disk space (Message 59324) Posted 7 Jan 2019 by Vicki Post: Dear fellow readers Yip me to as far as the server is out of upload space error is concerned & I have gotten that over the last few days as the backlogged of zips to send back mounts up. most of my stuck trickles are 50ish meg per file and are global series 769 & 770 series and still have a long way until completion of calculations for said work unis. one wonders how large the receiving servers capacity is & how much space is still not enough for the amount of work units being sent out to be crunched. time to invent the 200 teragig sd card & use that for incoming trickles! Aside from all that, Happy New Year & may it bring what you want as well as what you need. For me that means continuing to learn the skills no one has taught me yet, including hair plating, which is becoming a priority as my hair approaches 4.5 years long & with summer temperatures, hair in a bun is cooler than down, but still the yearn to see it plated before acquiring the skill reminds me that changing gender marker doesn't mean learning stops there. you can read the ups & downs of my 13th year of living female here. Oddly I had little trouble getting some seti tasks, so at least it is crunching something in the meantime.

Fortunately I was using msdos 3.3 / windows Version 1 in the subjects I was taking part in. Still the idea of a system image of all servers related to each project before a big upgrade (or should that be downgrade considering the results) makes a lot of sense. transmission gap Blue Gap then gap purple gap red clear transmission resumes some things seam timeless. The last 2 active tasks I have will complete within the next 3 weeks, after which, I will be out of work units for this project until things return to relative "normal". On the plus side of this waiting time is the deadlines are dated 2019. Still I hope for all connected to this project that it is all back up and running before then. Climate predictions loss of our collective cpu power will at least in the short term may well be other projects gains. Is there a similar Bonic project that is climate related, or should I keep looking to the stars with Eisenstein and Seti in the meantime? Climate research is a global issue, especially with so many countries trying to get Carbon neutral sooner rather than later. Without knowing the mixture of operating system and software environment this project runs on, I find myself wondering why the project doesn't do some sort of offline Backup system using something like windows system image. that would make restoring from a system failure easier and quicker to recover from. Seti for instance, goes offline weekly for 4ish hours for just such a purpose. Hindsight of course has better vision than waiting until disaster strikes. I of course wish those working to solve the issues every success in getting things back online as soon as they can and learning from this outage, rather than seeing it as a set back to repair.

(Message 58154) Posted 25 Apr 2018 by Vicki Post: The last stuck file just sprinted to its finish line; the fastest download speed I have seen on that desktop in ages, esp from cpdn. 3+ days to download. I will stick to my plan of catch up football on other projects, which will give them more time to fix up the server properly. My lappy has about a weeks worth of Einstein to crunch on in the meantime & the desktop crunching on mixture of Seti & Einstein. The last month I have finally crossed over the 800k mark in total Seti credit, long overdue given that it was the first project I joined, way back before Bonic changed into its current form.

(Message 58133) Posted 22 Apr 2018 by Vicki Post: traffic jam in both directions here & I am looking for my any key, or at the least suspending the project once the current traffic jam has cleared until a few more of the bumps & potholes of the servers recovery road are ironed out. 13+ hours trying to download 4 tasks is making dial up look fast. till semi working including having the forums back here is better than alone in the wilderness of waiting.

12) Message boards : Number crunching : Remote desktop entry in Bonic Log (Message 58072) Posted 3 Apr 2018 by Vicki Post: general sources of running slow: too many programs / apps loading at boot time lack of ram / Virtual memory setting too low. an sd card or usb stick can be used to increase this or increase size of actual installed ram to spec maximum. conflicting programs, such as multiple firewalls / anti virus programs drive is not defragmented often enough drive is showing first signs of mechanical failure system drive is too full, this affects the automatic virtual memory allocation underpowered cpu for programs most frequently used or operating system older hardware runs better on win xp, vista or 7 rather than win 10 too many browser add ons or open tabs. Tracking cookies, virus or trogan at work Remote desktop is a version of hacking if you are accessing without consent or being remotely accessed without your authorization. Having just checked Internet usage during the time period the remote connection was active, 1.36 gigs of traffic.

The other odd thing since resetting the affected desktop is that there have been no recorded hacking attempts blocked by the third party firewall program I use, making me wonder if I shouldn't have performed a low level format of the hard drive before reinstalation of windows, Bonic etc. Yuck, what a nightmare, somewhere in the realms of 2 days to get my desktop back to where it should be, if I did a back up followed by low level format, then windows etc. first things first, empty the current task list & minimize connection time in the interim.

Remote assistance has been off since I set up the machine again after it was remotely hacked beyond the capabilities of the windows repair disk. an address like c:\windows\<command name> would be useful.

Note that my computer is using GMT+12 as its clock. 2/04/2018 7:17:17 a.m. | climateprediction.net | Server error: feeder not running while my zips continue to upload for me, tasks here can not report completed status, nor can I download new tasks. I still have a few days worth of crunching to do on existing tasks. After that I will transfer resources to another project until this error is sorted. Vicki.

19) Message boards : Number crunching : not uploading ressuts: Disk quota exceeded (Message 57947) Posted 15 Mar 2018 by Vicki Post: one computers backlog cleared, the other I discovered was being remotely hacked a few minutes ago. still 6 more uploads to upload on that one. more eu trickles, but I think I will leave that one disconnected for a while from the net so the remote hacker doesn't try bouncing its way back into it instantly. what sprung them was the task manager popping up on its own, when I checked to see if its files had also been uploaded.
