Posted 12 Oct 2019 by tullus Post: Hi, sorry about that. I have made some corrections to the script so that it should now read the new status page correctly. I have put the source code here: https://github.com/obtitus/cpdn-status Please post future issues there, so that I get email notification. |

Posted 2 Dec 2016 by tullus Post: I messed up a bit, but it should be back on track now. I deleted the previous 14 days of data so it will look a bit weird for a week or so http://ob.cakebox.net/cpdn_status/server_status.html The new server status page seems to have a bug, the small "Work" table is stuck showing 322 tasks ready to send, but the "Tasks by application" shows 0 on all applications. https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/server_status.php |

Can't get Boinc to work
(Message 53307)
Posted 24 Jan 2016 by tullus Post: Hi Chris, glad you are looking into volunteering your computer! Due to various factors, work for this project is intermittent. But once work is sent out, it will keep your computer busy for quite some time. As you can see here: http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/server_status.html there are over 80 000 task, being run right now, by volunteers like us. As Jim suggested, I would recommend attaching boinc to an additional project, you will then get work from climateprediction when it becomes available. My personal recommendation for the additional project would be https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org, as they have some really worthwhile projects while keeping a steady supply of workunits. |

Posted 16 Nov 2015 by tullus Post: Hi Digby, I guess I could link here: http://www.climateprediction.net/climate-science/models-used/. I have also tried to get hold of the 'Recent CPDN Submissions' which you see on the front-page, which would say more about what each batch is about. It was down when climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk was down, so I am guessing it must originate from some rss feed, but I have been unable to figure out the url. I have sent an email to cpdn... |

Posted 31 Oct 2015 by tullus Post: I made some minor modifications: http://ob.cakebox.net/cpdn_status/server_status.html - Table is limited to 1024 pixels in width. - Table is extended with total for windows/linux/mac (implemented by parsing the application name, so might break) - excessively long application names are shortened in the plot legend. - Script will retry a bit if the site is down/slow. Hope you like it, |

Linux/Mac/Windows segmentation
(Message 51794)
Posted 9 Apr 2015 by tullus Post: Thank you Hannah. I was starting to wonder about the release of over 25 000 workunits for Weather At Home Australia New Zealand region (hadam3p_anz) (Mac only) but this app is now Weather At Home Australia New Zealand region (hadam3p_anz) (Mac and Windows only) "Mac only" would have meant an infinite supply for the next 100 years :) |

Linux/Mac/Windows segmentation
(Message 51774)
Posted 6 Apr 2015 by tullus Post: As far as I know, part of the reason for the segmentation is that some apps failed, either consistently or with a high probability on the "wrong" operating system. Especially macs, which failed all version 7+ tasks. There seems to be a huge drop in number of failed tasks after this change, so I would say it was/is a successful, although unfortunate, decision. |

Posted 30 Mar 2015 by tullus Post: @Steve You could also have a peak at http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/ It collects (among other things) the elapsed time for each boinc application, see e.g. http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/projet.py?projet=climateprediction.net&application=UK+Met+Office+Coupled+Model+Full+Resolution+Ocean The statistics might be a bit sketchy if there are few people attached to both cpdn and wuprop. You can contribute by attaching boinc to wuprop. |

100 000 years of computing time
(Message 51069)
Posted 29 Dec 2014 by tullus Post: Looks like the WCG have dropped the climate research. I can find no such information on their site. Maybe it got too hot? WCG is usually quiet about (potential) future projects. The news-post http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=375 was only a call for researchers to get in touch with worldcommunitygrid, whether anyone has actually done so is therefore unknown. The "submit a proposal" page now has the following: Special consideration will be given to proposals addressing climate change, such as: The 100 000 years of computing time numbers seems to have been selected more-or-less by random: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=464994 |

Posted 12 Dec 2014 by tullus Post: The page was finally beginning to become to slow for my computer to load, so I have limited the graphs to only show half a year. The old data is still kept, but not displayed. Is there a "need" for more than half a year in history? One solution is to draw older data with fewer datapoints, but this is a bit more cumbersome to implement. |
