I agree with Andrew, check your boinc messages tab, and see if boinc has adopted a new work policy known as earliest deadline first, this happened to me when I upgraded a couple of days ago. It should sort itself out though.

Hi Andy,
I have had very similar errors on my laptop but I could never pin point the problem to a specific program. It started to become a regular problem with random applications crashing and then about a month later, my hard drive died completely. I'm not saying this is your problem, but if it is a regular event, then I would suspect a hardware issue. Perhaps try getting another drive and copying boinc across to it and see if the problem still persists. I know this isn't much help, but something to keep in mind.

3) Questions and Answers : Windows : Laptop Cooling Fan stops and starts when BOINC becomes active (Message 12578)

In regard to this comment, the bios normally monitors the cpu temperature and automatically adjusts the fans as required. You can also get software that will display the temperature readings for you. Hope this helps.

And welcome to cpdn :)

4) Questions and Answers : Windows : whre do i fetch a second model to run? (Message 12567)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'you got through the first model ok'. According to your account information you have uploaded 3 trickles so far which means the model still has quite some time to go before it is finished. Every 10802 timesteps you will upload a trickle and there are 72 trickles for each model.

There is a way to fix it, see href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2469">here

I followed solution 2 and all projects are now in sink.

Good luck

I have also seen some people talking about raising their laptop to get better cooling. I decided to test this theory. I have a Dell 8200 1.9Ghz, 512M SDRAM running cpdn. The fans are always running hard. I obtained a fan monitor program http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html which provides me with the temp data I'm looking for. For all results the ambient temp is 27C and the initial idle CPU temp is 54C (no fans running). Start CPDN and let the temp stabilise for an hour gave a 70C running temp. Next I raised the laptop by 1/2 inch at the 4 corners. Here is the the surprise, not ONE DEGREE of running temperature change seen over the next hour of operation. The hard drive temp was a constant 54C all of the time.

In light of this the CPU can run comfortably up to 85C before becoming a concern, so my opinion based on these results is that my laptop is up to the task of running cpdn despite the 16C increase in temp. One thing I am curious about is whether or not these laptop cooling mats provide any real temp decrease whilst running cpdn? Has anyone tried these?

I also joined about 2+ weeks ago and am still waiting for CPDN to line up. Yes my emails have been the same for all projects (SETI/CPDN). Curiously, I decided to also join Einstein (3 days ago) and the cpid matched the SETI cpid immediately. Oh well, it doesn't matter to much, I'm in this for the long haul, maybe in 3 years time they all might be in synch.
