Hi Les,

Do you think these (post failure) message board posts will be moved to the production server once the problems are finally resolved??

Richard Haselgrove (BOINC Client Release Manager) stated today in a BOINC Project Call, that there are two remaining bugs yet to be resolved on the 7.9.3 development client test cycle.

Richard had no time-frame yet for the release of the next client production release (BOINC Version 7.10.x) or if another round of release 7.9.x development testing is planned.

Hi all,

Clearly the site is not operating properly on the backup system and we should all just wait for the team to address problems next week. I'm temporarily suspending work to prevent additional upload/download attempts which are clearly not working and probably just adding to the problem. Hopefully Les can provide an update early next week.

Hi...I have 11 WU's in BOINC that are in progress or ready to start on computer 1450776. However, when I check status on this computer on the web site there are "zero" tasks listed for any status. Was the history lost or not available on the backup server data base?

Can someone explain the long outage ?

When this site shuts down, people switch to the BOINC site, in particular the Projects section, top post, which is: News on Project Outages, where a message, usually from Andy, is posted.

In this case, a new thread was also created: CPDN project going offline this afternoon, which is full of posts from people, including one that I put there near the end of the thread, which I felt explains things well enough.

Sorry Les...I didn't think to look at the Projects section on the BOINC site. Would be great if you could do this consistently when outages exceed 12 hours. Will the future (expected) outages to move back to the primary servers be scheduled with notices to us??

70) Message boards : Number crunching : Batch List (Message 58023)
Posted 29 Mar 2018 by Art Masson
Post:
Hi Iain,

Since batches are now released for specific operating systems (I think this is now the case), would it be possible to add the OS platform to the batch list log at some point?

Most of my machines are Windows based, but I have one Mac OS platform that has not received a work unit in quite some time...so I'm thinking it would help to understand by batch what platform the work units within each batch are for.

There has not been any work for either Mac or Linux for several months now because of a Segmentation violation problem that no one seems to be able to sort out.

Oh...wasn't aware. Is this strictly a CPDN problem? Who is working on it?

Hi everyone..

My assumption is that no one is interested or has time to work with the BOINC Release Manager to develop better instructions for loading the various versions of BOINC for Linux...or that (per Dave's comment) this would likely take multiple individuals given the various platforms.

I'll advise Richard Haselgrove

Thanks anyway....This is my last post on this thread.

Hi all,

Richard Haselgrove (the new BOINC client Release Manager) could use someone to help provide current Linux loading instructions for the BOINC Client. If anyone has some time and good Linux knowledge who would be willing to work with him, please post here and let me know. This would ultimately provide some better and up-to-date information on the public BOINC Download site (which is currently old and out of date) for Linux. (See for the current out-of-date info here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php)

Below is a response from Richard when I asked if he could use some Linux knowledgeable help to provide new users of BOINC who want to load the latest BOINC client:

Yes, I agree there are new users - often refugees from Windows 10 - who are coming to BOINC afresh and need their hands holding.

There are also an awful lot of Linux distributions out there, and we need to be careful to cover as many bases as possible. One thing that would be helpful is a distro tree, starting with the fork between Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora/RedHat/CentOS at the top, and showing how the other names branch out from there.

If you think you can find an experienced user who can think themselves back into 'newbie' mode and point out all the pitfalls to avoid, that would be great.
