41) Message boards : Number crunching : Old URL - BOINC message (Message 58628)

I note that the latest BOINC Manager no longer has links to the Forum or User data. It just has a link to the CPDN Home page.

Running native Linux at the moment and that certainly has the links. Pretty sure the windows client I have to run under WINE does too.

All links are there on my Windows BOINC 7.12.1 Client. Running Windows 10, 64-bit, latest production version 17134.228

Ever since the "upgrade" in your computing, my statistics have shown a flat line and no increase in credit...even after completion of several runs...I am now running 2 10 day runs...am tempted to delete Climate Prediction to use for projects that at least acknowledge them using my computer.

Hi Paulie

Suggest you hang on for a couple more weeks. The credit runs have always caught up in the past. Hopefully Les or Dave Jackson can get an update on the status.

Thanks,
Have just checked ccconfig.xml and all options use dont rather than don't so clearly that isn't the issue. I haven't done any manual messing about with the file so it is something generated by BOINC. as opposed to anything I may have introduced inadvertently.

Yes, this is a bug in 7.12.1 (development release) which the team is working to resolve...nothing caused by you as a BOINC user.

By the way...here are the release notes for BOINC for Windows 7.12.x:

Changes in 7.12.X
When auto-attach to an account manager, show its name.
Work correctly with account managers that use authenticators rather than name/password.
Windows 10: detect and report Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)
Supports HTML in project terms of use
Fix Next buttons in attach wizard after failed login
Show informative error message if login token lookup fails

Believe there is an attempt to provide a switch option for Windows to use or don't use WSL. Not sure it's working properly.

There is a new development version for Windows ==> Version 7.12.1.

This version fixes some problems with auto-attaching to projects. Once this last set of issues completes beta testing, it is likely that Version 7.12.1 will be made the recommended version.

This is currently available FOR TESTING ONLY on the normal BOINC download site:

All I can do is repeat what I've said before:

There are NO tasks to download, so stop trying to.

And leave the urls alone.
Just get on with running whatever you already have, and then upload all of the data.

However, for those of your computers that don't have tasks/ zips waiting, you CAN disconnect and then reattach using the secure url (https).

*************************

As for those new error messages, let's just wait until there IS work available and see what everyone gets then.

OK...Sorry. I'm done messing around!. The one new task did just complete downloading, however, so I'll start processing the one new task and see what happens.

For what it's worth I'm getting the following error. I think I'll remove the project and try to reinstall. Should I use http or https ?

Les,

I tried (silly me) to add CPDN again as a second instance on my primary machine with https/. It appeared to install correctly as a second CPDN project but the 3 in process tasks I originally had were all immediately tagged as "abandoned" and have disappeared from BOINC. So I removed the new "extra" CPDN project instance. I'm back to CPDN with just http...which is attempting to download a new task...but it's not downloading currently. So on my primary machine I've got CPDN installed (http) but no tasks to crunch currently. My playing around created a mess, I'm afraid.

I can try to simply resume CPDN on another machine that has tasks to crunch (without changing it to https) and see if it will do anything, if you think that's worth a try.

Les...to do that, I'll have to first remove the CPDN project from BOINC -- which will (I assume) abort all current in-process tasks. Is this what I need to do?

Thanks Les. I'll just hang on and not change anything until Andy can assure you that all is well. I don't want to remove the project to change the URL without guidance -- since I assume this would effectively abort all current in-process tasks on all 7 of my machines.

I have all my machines which run CPDN in "suspended" status currently. Will wait for further guidance....:)

Just got this message in my BOINC Event Log:

7/9/2018 8:33:34 PM | climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
7/9/2018 8:33:34 PM | climateprediction.net | Not requesting tasks: suspended via Manager
7/9/2018 8:33:37 PM | climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed
7/9/2018 8:33:37 PM | climateprediction.net | This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://climateprediction.net/

Les, can you confirm this is necessary and provide details as to how to add the project back correctly...I'm not sure how to do what the error message is suggesting. CPDN Server status is saying all servers are up. Should we abort all in process tasks??

Yes, that is correct, Bill F. 7.12.0 is a "development" release for Beta Testing only at this point. Versions 7.10.2 (for Windows and Linux) and 7.10.3 for Mac OS are the current "recommended" releases.

OK, Thanks, Les.

I suggest some overall guidance to crunchers (after the smoke clears) to provide direction on currently processing and/or pending tasks given that it's not clear what the state of the database is on outstanding tasks. Depending on individual actions in the BOINC clients it seems highly likely that status will not be aligned between clients and the CPDN database -- especially for those who tried to continue processing while the backup database was running or aborted individual tasks that were processing.

We certainly don't want to contribute to additional data errors by processing tasks that the system thinks are in a different status/state. Given that the system has been down for almost two months, perhaps it's better to just zero out all the outstanding tasks for all clients centrally and "start over" processing new ones...(just a thought). Hopefully just retaining the cumulative credit for each account.

By the way...who remembers toggling in "bootstrap loaders" on DEC PDP equipment...so that the system could read a paper tape to load the operating system?? (I do!!! and you had to do this over and over every time your new program failed)

Hi all...I'm assuming the certificate problem remains -- since I'm still getting the errors below, correct?

So...we are still not back in business. I'm thinking once BOINC can communicate successfully, I'll abort any outstanding tasks from all seven of my machines and wait for new ones...does this make sense? Meantime I've got CPDN suspended on all machines.
