I feel for you, I lost about 45% of one. And I started several while trying to figure this out.

A P4 Hyperthreaded will look like multiple processors to BOINC.

There is a feature to combine computers on the site.

But make sure that in your preferences you have 1 filled in for max number of processors used. if it is blank, I believe BOINC see it as a no preference and will try and use the "second" P4 in yout P4HT....

Ahhh found out.

Have verified this, so I may have srewed up several results.

CP works fine in conjuction with other projects such as seti when running on more than one processor.

However if CP alone runs on a multi processor it hangs.

What I did (so it can be repeated)

I disconected myself from CP. Then re connected. It locked after downloading.

If disconnected again, went to preferences on the cp site, and made sure that Boinc only used one processor.

It was working running CP only again.

So just to verify, I set the processors back to 2 and updated. Sure enough BOINC went non responsive after a download.

So the moral of the story is, If you are not getting work from another project, and have more than one processor, you need to set your preferences to use only 1 processor. Once the other projects come back up I'n sure it will be fine to enable multi processors again.

Detached from pirates first.

No help.

Detached from CP

Boinc is running ok now...

Something happened with either those work units, or the cp app as it wanted to download the cp app again. See above. Will try and re-attach later

Ok,

I have some more info on whats happening...

Boinc Locks (Non Responsive). I killed it and started again so I could get a good message log.

It looks like is is downloading the hadsm app multiple times. Then is starts downloading a work unit, (Even though I have one that was running) and then hangs after the download of the work unit.

Is the task manager Boinc_gui is running,
hadsm3_4.03_win and hadsm3um_4.03_w are also running.

Boinc remains unresponsive. Boinc View does show the task running. but nothing else.

Here is the log

7) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Solaris Boinc (Message 4491)

Another thing I noticed is that SETI binary seems to be using gcc+, and the sun is a sponsor for them. Maybe the will run the make for you on the source.

I don't havethe full gcc it installed on the systems here, but I do have the libraries needed to run seti. If needed I have one I can load up gcc on and run a compile. Feel free to contact me by e-mail.

Since seti seems to be having a major problem with credits right now, I would dearly love to switch my sparcs to cp.

I don't see why not. CP seems to need disk space more than anything. It would probably take longer that on a blade... But I don't see any reason that it couldn't. We use ours for heavy graphical analysis of semi-conductor imaging.

Even though they are slower that the current P4's in some reguards. The sparc compile of the older ultra's should have no problem running on the blades. I now have seti running on 2 ultra 1's one ultra 10, 1 ultra 60, and a blade 1000. They see use here about once a month, so I can have BOINC crunching on them most of the time.

Its not a pretty graphical, just a command line, but hey, It does crunch the data for you.

Since the are workstations for my place of employment, I cannot loan them out for the compiling, or I would...

I am running the Seti Boinc on three sparcs at work. These are machines that get used a couple times a month. Other than they they just sit and take up electricity. I would love to see CP on Sparc also.

An older Ultra 1 should be found pretty cheap on the net. I've heard as little as $50 (us)
