21) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit Generator may be broken again. (Message 24230)

Oh yes, I do update several times a day. The 48 hours I mentioned is when a \"check-point\" trickle occurs, i.e. one of those trickles every 10,802 steps which generates credit. I have arranged the resource share so that this occurs in the evening (about 19:00 UTC every 2 days) when I am on line and can watch it happening.
Then at the next update after midnight UTC the Stats graph gets a horizontal extension, which changes the next day to an up or a down, alternating to produce the saw-tooth. In this particular instance I unusually got 2 consecutive downs, which has thrown the graph awry, and indicated that the credit was not generated within the usual time.
I wonder why Climate have chosen such a short average-calculation time, whereas others use a longer span, e.g. I complete an Enstein unit every 3 days, yet the graph is dead straight. Climate is the only one that saw-tooths.

I\'ve been sending trickles at about the same time every 48 hours, and the tops of the sawteeth were beginning to show a consistent value. Then suddenly comes this big dip where no credit has been granted. So I was worried. The graph does now show an upturn, but not to where it should be. Perhaps today\'s trickle will put it back on course.

I sent a check-point trickle yesterday at 19:54, did an update at 2:00 today (UTC+1) and got no credit, so my statistics graph has taken a nose-dive. I was jusr getting it levelled out.

I think it is a good idea, when this happens, to start a new thread that may catch someone\'s eye, rather that let them think \"oh they\'re still chatting about the old problem\".
Yes, my checkpoint 162030 trickle went up two days ago, but has not appeared on my results list, and therefore no credit yet.

Les Bayliss - Thanks for pointing out my error on the BOINC version number - it was 5:20 am when I posted and I was getting very tired and frustrated.
Ralic - Ah, success at last. I followed your advice, and downloaded the 4.45b patch. Noted that the band down the left of the display containing the buttons is now much wider, except on the statistics tab. Resetting the project removed a lot of files, but not the old results folders - presumably it is OK to manually delete these?
Then I went online and allowed new work. No sulphur this time, just a slab model. The internet connection was good and fast, and I thought it was going to finish all in one go. But good ole Wanadoo died after 55 mins, then again after another 35 (with 6 KB to go!), and it finished on re-try with no download errors. The work unit is now on the work tab, waiting its turn. Whoopee!
Thank you for the advice, and thanks also to the person who devised this patch.

Progress Report. Now that 24 hours has elapsed, I was allowed to download a new work unit. So what did it want to download? 31 megabytes of sulphur files as well. I cannot download all of that in the time allowed on my dial-up Wanadoo. So I had to disallow internet connection after a while. On resuming, the sulphur files continued to dowmload where they had left off, but the computer reported in red that the work unit had failed with a download error, and I must wait for another day to get a new one. Why this error when the work unit had not even started to download?

A few days ago this computer\'s wonderful Windows caused an unexpected reboot, and I found it had lost all of the work I was doing (4 projects). All have re-loaded successfully except Climate. Each time I connect, it wants to re-download some enormous files including globe.tga plus the work unit. Because of the size difference, the work unit finishes downloading before globe, and then it reports a download error for the work unit, and the message that I have had my daily quota of 1 unit. The next day is the same, and the next. Any ideas how to break this pattern?

I downloaded my first Climate WU in March, but then my computer was away for repair for 3 months. It finally completed phase 1 a couple of days ago, did its high-disc-usage processing, and started phase 2.
I wish to report that after two minutes Windows 2K Pro reported illegal errors and aborted the program. This then reported home as a computation error. Pity; but we will start again.
