21) Message boards : Cafe CPDN : Are you addicted...but want to enjoy it? (Message 5325)

Does your heart rate increase at the thought of loosing cpu cycles? Do you check the status of your crunching within 10 minutes of waking up in the morning, getting home at night, prior to going to bed? Are you concerned that others are crunching more than you? Do you want to turn your addiction around? Do you want to enjoy your crunching experience?

Then come and visit us here at <a href="http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/thefinalfrontear/index.html"> The Final Front Ear.</a>

We don't take our crunching experience too seriously. We're a truly international team (well as much as we can be with (edit) 26 members on cpdn, 37 on sah, 16 on lhc, 17 on pred and 12 on pirates).

Come on...you know you want to.

I had this issue also, but the 2nd instance downloaded cpdn. The BOINC GUI was frozen until all the downloads had been completed and the 2nd instance was running again. One way around it is to re-boot and disable HT in bios then re-boot. Only problem is that when work becomes available again you have to do the reverse - rather painful really. But now I have 2 cpdn wu's BOINC is a happy little vegimite and will be for a long-long time (I hope)!

Looks like I'm going to have to pull my finger out and so some real crunching! My 3.2GHz prescott is all cpdn now! Nice graphs Toby.

[Edit: Well it was until LHC gave out more work now it's 52% cpdn and 47% lhc and 1% pirates until it gets a wu then it's 95% pirates - hmmm I need to think through that philosophy, about pirates that is.]

Just got a lot credited....I was starting to get worried there for a bit.

BTW, a great team!

Bump...it'd be nice to have this on the CPDN page somewhere, similar to what sah classic had.

Great stuff Zain.

26) Message boards : Number crunching : Changing CPU (Message 3684)
Posted 10 Sep 2004 by Profile old_user633
Post:
I am thinking of changing my cpu from a 2GHzP4 to a 3.2GHzP4 due to the cheap intel pricing right now. So what implications will this have for boinc? Will boinc pick up from where it left off? Will I have to set my preferences to 0 days and let the numbers of wu\'s run down to nominal numbers prior to swapping? (I hate dumping wu\'s) Does cpdn care? As the host is based on cpu type and os will the change mess things right up?

Interesting point...my comp reported back to base at exactly 21604 timesteps, but a couple of minutes later it still hadn't showed up on the web site. I even did a project update, but nope. I wonder how long it takes to show up on the web site? Is this the time lag you were talking about?

&gt; I have noticed that as more calculations are done, the trickle reporting no
&gt; longer happens when 10,802 time-step units are completed but several thousand
&gt; time-steps beyond the calculation-unit.
&gt;
&gt; When does a trickle report then?

&gt;
G'day Richard,

From my understanding it is every 10,802 timesteps, but it may not recognise them until you do a project update.

Carl,

I think it's great that you traverse these message boards and post. It helps keep us humble participants up to date with what is happening and gives us a feeling of appreciation. Now if only the folks at S@H could do the same!

Many thanks and keep up the good work!

30) Questions and Answers : Windows : WU Wiped Out (Message 1092)
Posted 17 Aug 2004 by Profile old_user633
Post:
I had to stop BOINC while I re-booted my W2K machine after a software install. Prior to exiting BOINC I suspended calculation and then exited. On re-starting BOINC after the re-boot there was no cpdn wu listed in the work tab. No matter what I tried it was lost. This is pretty frustrating after 170hrs and 25% completed. What gives?

Live long and crunch!

32) Message boards : Number crunching : Added XML Stats (Message 670)
Posted 10 Aug 2004 by Profile old_user633
Post:
Zain from SETISYNERGY has added CPDN to his growing stats site that already includes S@H and P@H. Since he already had the code to convert the xml from the other projects, once he found the link to the CPDN stats xml location it took him no time to develop the CPDN stats pages. I won't say where the stats are at just yet as he is still testing. He plans to have 'total' BOINC project stats as well.
