Thank you for the explanation. I appreciate it but it certainly would have been nice for that to accompany the message when the announcement was sent saying that windows jobs were not going to be available for these tasks anymore instead of just a message with out any explanation. Not everyone keeps up with all the message boards all the time.

I received the following 3 messages on my BOINC manager tonight from the server with no explanation while I actually have one of these jobs running on my computer with a deadline coming up on April 22 so I'm wondering what the heck is going on???. The WU I have going on is task HadAM3P anz_rcy6_2012_1_008746396_0

My computer is #1284902 in your system and is a windowx 64 bit system so if you are no longer able to run this type of software on your system I may as well abort this program now but I would like to get credit for the nearly 650 hours that have been put into this work unit that I am now being told is not available for this project any longer. I have noticed that as my computer has been running hours the clock has been increasing in time but the remaining time to run has not been decreasing so the time remaining has been decreasing very slowly and the job still has nearly 540 hours remaing when its already run 640...something seems off on this. when there were 900 hours to the task at the start.

Please let me know what you want me to do with this task and if you will give me credit for the hours run should you have me abort it.

Wanted to report that my task finally completed during the day and I am tickled that I decided to be patient with it and not just abort it - it was 1320 hours running time for full completion and well over a month past deadline.

Wow...

OK, here are 3 readings that I've taken from the screen as you suggested:

2/13 noon

582301 of 1039392
56.03%
hours of computing
469.27.28
_______
2/13 7:38 PM
590.551
56.82%

475.38.04
_______
2/14 6:20 am
601,153
57.84% 463.22.58

It does appear to be progressing to me in sequence within the task itself however its still adding time onto the job so maybe this is normal and the 14 hours yesterday was a fluke. The job now has 197 hours remaining to completion and 811 completed so it has added an additional 3 hours onto the task since my last message to you...but thats fewer than the 14 from the previous day!

I'll keep watching and see what happens from here unless you have any other thoughts.

Thanks for the info Les.

I don't know about your explanations for the added hours. The project has been running continuously on high priority status and hasn't stopped except for when I rebooted my computer a couple times earlier today. I had just over 180 hours yesterday and now the project has 194 hours remaining to run so I don't understand how it can add about 14 hours in one day's time under the explanation you gave.

It just doesn't sound right to me.

Anyway, I am continuing to let it run. If it continues to increase hours at this same rate I will report additional hour increases as something strange seems to be occurring here.

This has been a very informative thread for me and makes me wish that had been reading in the thread much earlier on than just now. I have aborted a lot of my earlier jobs because they still had a lot of hours to run when the due date came and I probably should have checked with someone instead to see if I should have let it keep running or not.

I am approaching a deadline on a job now - the deadline is the 13th @ 3:38 am and the task will not complete before the deadline - physically impossible to run 180+ hours in less than 48. The task is had3mcn_022u_2020_40_008398650_3. Another thing about the task deadline is that it keeps growing in hours - a few days ago it was 172 hours left to run and now is over 180 so I really don't know how long it will take for the job to finish.

So, do I let the job keep running or abort it like I have done with almost every previous job I have done with the project?

It seems such shame to run a project for so many hours and then abort due to time expiration...

Tonight as this job reached 1031 hours task time completed, a computation error occured and the job ended. The following shows up in my event log:

5/25/2013 8:40:47 PM | climateprediction.net | Task hadcm3n_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
5/25/2013 8:40:47 PM | climateprediction.net | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
5/25/2013 8:40:47 PM | climateprediction.net | Restarting task hadcm3n_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2 using hadcm3n version 607 in slot 6
5/25/2013 8:44:29 PM | climateprediction.net | Computation for task hadcm3n_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2 finished
5/25/2013 8:44:29 PM | climateprediction.net | Output file hadcm3n_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2_4.zip for task hadcm3n_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2 absent
5/25/2013 8:45:44 PM | climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks.
5/25/2013 8:45:44 PM | climateprediction.net | Reporting 1 completed tasks
5/25/2013 8:45:44 PM | climateprediction.net | Not requesting tasks: project is not highest priority
5/25/2013 8:45:47 PM | climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed

The job obviously is over and done with. Will I get credit for 1031 hours of work done on this task? or have all those hours been lost because of the computation error? Needless to say, I'm quite frustrated at the "output file absent" explanation for why this task ended in an error especially after 1031 hours of computing time.

I"m a native of Washington State currently transplanted to the Buckeye state...I hope you are taking good care of my mountains, evergreen trees, the Columbia and Snake River Regions and Puget Sound, the rain forest and the ocean for me...I miss it all! (born in Walla Walla but lived most of my adult life in Vancouver, WA) Its the seeing Mountains on a daily basis that I miss the most...its so darn flat here and the stuff they ski on and call mountaines out here - well my late former father in law used to run John Deere Farm equipment on hills steeper than what they ski on out here back in the Walla Walla Valley.

Take good care of my home state for me!

OK, thankyou then...I as concerned since the deadline is fast approaching that the project would abort and its so close to finishing and all of those hours would be down the drain...

I've started so many tasks for this project and had many of them lost for one reason or another without being able to complete and this one is so close and I'd really like to finish this one successfully!

I have a job that is nearly complete - it will be close to 1000 hours when it is finished and at the moment is just over 900 hours of job tgime completed with about 126 hours to run left. The deadline for this job to finish is in 2 days on the 22nd of May.

I would like to request an extension so that the job can finish. I know that on other jobs people have requested extensions and the tasks have been able to change the dates that the jobs were due on.

had3cn_zh8j_1880_40_008248187_2 is the specific task ID that I am referring to and my machine ID is 1223920 for the project.

I would hate to lose all this time just because I went over the deadline by just a few hours when its possible that you can change the task deadline for me.

Thank you.

That makes sense reading what you are saying, however, my clock just did a normal change to the time...this is a new computer as of this year so its not like the battery is bad so what you suggested isn't likely...but I suppose anything is possible.

Anyway, I did get a new task today so am pleased to be crunching a job once more!

I was lucky enough to get one of those jobs to and ran it for about 60 hours...then something happened and every single job that was in my queue got aborted during the night and everything had an error message. I suspect it had something to do with the time change of time on the night of daylight savings switching since thats the night when it happened. Anyway, I lost my jobs and haven't been able to get any new tasks for CPDN since that time and wonder if there will be any forthcoming soon.
