41) Message boards : Number crunching : Trickles not updating credits (Message 49315)

It's not just the credits. The trickles themselves (or my latest two at least) are now not being added to the task details on the site.

No. It's everyone with CPDN points today. Not just people in teams.

I notice that the information about the task has now been updated on the Web site. The trickle at timestep 1,036,800 was returned and I've received the full credit. It seems only the last batch of data wasn't uploaded. The Sterr is full of raving about environment variables being ignored.

Thanks, Les. Yes I did mean it was showing in BOINC Manager as completed.

Bad luck there.

While it would have been nice to have completed it properly and to have uploaded the final data, I suppose I did get a lot further with it than the two previous recipients! :)

I've recently aborted an hadcm3n which was pronounced finished after its penultimate trickle-up but which kept going for a day or so until I zapped it. There's still a 1.6 GB folder in the project folder with the name of the aborted task, which resetting the project hasn't cleared. I presume it's OK to delete this and the associated XML file manually?

47) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : New to BOINC trouble getting work downloaded (Message 44710)

As you're a new user, it'd be a good idea to go to the Number crunching section, open the top (sticky) thread called News and Announcements, and then subscribe to it. This will get you an email message when ever some thing is posted there.

Hi, Les.

What you actually see and receive here are set in your Community Preferences, reachable via a link on your account page.

For News and Announcements always to appear at the top of Number crunching's thread list, "Do not reorder sticky posts" has to be unchecked in your "Message display" preferences.

For e-mail notifications, the appropriate radio button has to be selected under "Notifications".

And of course the "Update" button then has to be clicked under "Update". :)

Yep. I've had a PNW error overnight too. Same symptoms. A few more points awarded though. :)

hadam3p_eu_cqgw_2005_1_008082804_0 and hadam3p_eu_cqgu_2003_1_008082803_0. Downloaded at 09:14 BST yesterday and run in parallel from then until they apparently "completed" within seconds of each other at getting on for 01:00 this morning. Files _2 to _12 were reported missing and there was indeed a file _13 apparently waiting to be uploaded when network activity resumed. I only remember there being one such _13 file, but I wasn't paying particular attention at the time. Although supposedly several MB in size, it disappeared instantly from the Transfers window when the BOINC client contacted the server.

"REPLANCA: PP HEADERS ON ANCILLARY FILE DO NOT MATCH" error in both cases.

Mac OS 10.6.8. BOINC 7.0.28.

Why not help them find the cause of the problem by quoting the error message which you can see?

Hi.

I'm getting the same thing with files 10 to 13 of a HADAM3P EU. The error's: "[error] Error reported by upload server: can't open log file '../log_uploader1/file_upload_handler.log' (errno: 9)".

In the event, my BOINC client reported the task as completed this morning and hasn't asked for any more.

This is a very old error, with a still unknown cause. It only happens to a few computers, and then not all of the time. And it usually disappears again on it's own.

I sometimes get it when (like this morning) I don't get up in time to turn the router on before BOINC tries to access the Internet. It goes away once the CPDN app has successfully reported in.

Ditto. Downloaded on Friday (23rd), I think. I've been waiting to see if the anomaly would be "fixed on Monday", but it doesn't appear to have been.

The task has sent back two trickles so far with no sign of surprise from the server. It may even have picked up some credit for the first one, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to mention site errors. Apologies if not.

For the past few days, whenever I navigate to any individual task pages on this site, I get the error message: "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key. A new key can be generated at http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html."

This happens with both Safari and Firefox (Mac OS X). The pages display OK once the dialog's dismissed. It's just a little annoying.

PS. It also happens with the Server Status page.

I picked up one this morning which had previously errored after a few seconds on two other machines.

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/workunit.php?wuid=7523642

It may not be started for a while on my machine as I have a hadcm3n running in high priority mode and three other projects.
58) Message boards : Number crunching : No tasks being requested (Message 42280)
Posted 29 May 2011 by Nigel Garvey
Post:
I know there's no CPDN work available at the moment. But I notice that my BOINC client hasn't actually requested any new CPDN tasks for quite a while. The project's not suspended, nor is its work fetch.

I wasn't expecting any task requests while the machine was still processing the HadCM3N and HadAM3P PNW tasks it had until recently; but the HadCM3N completed on 18th May and the HadAM3P just over 48 hours ago, since when there've been no climateprediction.net messages at all in my BOINC Manager Messages log. The other four projects on the machine are behaving as expected.

I don't know if it's relevant, but the reporting of the HadAM3P was rejected by the server …

Fri 27 May 11:15:57 2011 climateprediction.net Message from server: Completed result hadam3p_pnw_ykbc_1984_1_007215657_0 refused: this result wasn't sent (not needed)

… and the report deadline's still shown in green on my "All tasks" page. (As I write, the two recent tasks are the two at the top of the page.) However, there are no CPDN tasks still showing in BOINC Manager.

BOINC 6.10.58
Mac OS X 10.6.7
MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB memory

Edit: After posting the above, I tried resetting the project, which has resulted in lots of task requests and the download of some hadcm3 PNGs. So that was the cure. I still don't know what caused the problem though.

Thanks, Les.

I suspended Climateprediction.net last night rather than do anything which might interfere with my other projects. The files are uploading now, in no particular order, as I write. Only three and two halves to go now. I'll unsuspend when they're all gone.
