1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Time Slicing - Playing Catch-Up (Message 2316)

Post:
How long of a period will boinc try to play catch-up to even out project time shares. I have both CPDN and S&H set to 100 each, but boinc has been running S&H for two hours and CPDN for one hour at a time. CPDN has been running for a total of three weeks of cpu time and S@H just started a couple of days ago with the upgrade. Is boinc going to continue this 2 to 1 ratio until the projects are even?

> Isn't it better to set that value standard to Yes in the preferences then?
> It's now standard at No. Or at least, it was for me.

I would assume they don't want to TAKE resources by default. They would rather have the user willing GIVE up those resources. There are less lost steps if you select yes, but you'd rather not force people to give up memory space.

> Now it works. I don't know whats the problem, but just now I used
> http://climateprediction.net and it worked.
>
>
The exact same thing happened on my computer. My first attempt to attach failed and the system detached me. I tried again with the exact same url and key and it worked. It acted as if the database did not have my new account in it the first time, then updated before my second attempt.
