21) Message boards : Number crunching : Credits accruing but no trickles sent???? (Message 41422)

All good for the Famous files and trickles though the Hadcm zip files have been stuck for over a week. Could this be an "unrelated" problem as the models, which have not stopped running, have not created any further zip files since, but should have. My concern is these models will end in 4-5 days and I hope they will be usable as there is no quorum on these: I am the only cruncher running 2 out 3 models.

On Windows, my last trickle was on 12-28;1pm UTC on famous while the last zip upload occurred on 12-27;2am UTC on a hadcm zip. All are on backoff regardless of the model types. To paraphrase Geophi, I, and surely many others, would also dislike loosing 3000 hours of runtime as hadcm models are close to their end.

It would be timely for the scientists behind CPDN to post an announcement to review 2010 and especially the past few months as well as provide a look ahead for 2011 to all participants.

HadCM3 sends 1 or 2 trickles per day compared to 20/day for Famous. The average credit per trickle is between 312 (older model) and 326 (3 models). The total credits, on a 2-day basis confirms 6.7 trikles sent daily for the 4 models. You can verify with tasks 12016174 - 12014849 - 12011495 - 12009677 on 1041368. I have 2Gb of RAM. Models are smooth so far.

For the runtime estimate, as the completion time is erroneous, it is of course difficult to assess. Again on my older model, there are currently 334 hours elapsed for 96 hours hours completed from the original estimate of 770 (or 674 remaining). It does indicate 30% completion, which confirms Jim's estimate of 1100 hours, but, if you base a rule of 3 calc on the 770 hours, the completion time becomes 2678 hours. This is interesting... As Les pointed out on another thread, the Ocean phase recalcs each 24 hour timestep, and I would add it messes up the completion estimate (and trickles?). Time will tell :)

I unfortunately disagree with Iain. I have a 2.33Ghz Xeon Quad and the oldest hadcm model indicates currently 300 hours completion and 690 remaining out of 770 hours estimated originally, which was of course totally incorrect. At this rate, this model will go well over 2000 hours, if not 3000. As for credits, there are 600-800 per day less than usual with Famous. I like running CPDN as I believe in the research and the cause but I hope there will be adjustments made. :)

Thanks Les. It is an interesting behavior for the model though the Ocean Phase is as fast as the dip in my RAC. Oh well.
:)

"26.127 credits should be about tight of this type of model. If I remember correctly, the old 160 year CM’s produced about 44,000 credits for a finished model."

44,000 perhaps should be the amount, as I am noticing so far a drop of up to 20-40% from FAMOUS. The models, every 24 timestep hours, revert back and redo the same timestep albeit at a much faster speed. They will likely go over 1000 hours to complete on my M/C.

[quote]I decided to click 'Retry Now'... and click... and click.... Eventually, the downloads finished. (Pathetic way to get the job done, actually.)

Thanks AstroWX. This would confirm it is a problem with the CPDN download server.

I clicked several times also but my confidence in the downloaded files was low for not being corrupted and possibly wasting computing time so I regrettably aborted them and held off on downloads until a resolution to this issue or a confirmation the models will behave properly to the end.

Read Milo's announcement but I still encounter failed downloads for the past several days. Everything else is Ok.

Started download of atmos_v3xe_1199_200_006736082_0.gz
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Temporarily failed download of atmos_v3xe_1199_200_006736082_0.gz: HTTP error

Thanks

Uploads are working well but Boinc Manager has not updated credits. I'm not very concerned about it but I don't recall seeing this with all CPDN servers running. Is this part of the current issue?

Thanks Milo. Great work!

Though I'm still missing approximately 2 days worth of credits and RAC, it's small compared to some other guys. At least, no loss on the models, trickles work fine, though still pending now and then, hopefully because of too may connections.
