1) Message boards : Number crunching : Completing a WU? Impossible. How's the situation today? (Message 70760)
Posted 19 days ago by Profile Thomas McFarland
Post:
The problems with the earlier batches from 4-6 months ago have been mostly resolved. The occasional Wu still has an issue, but 90% of my tasks are completing successfully now. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Unless its causing WU crashes, it really helps with controlling heat issues on some rigs while still using all cores.

Use at most x% of cpu time should be removed from boinc source code

Thanks! And yeah, Jean posted that it would be out in 7 days, but that was almost 4 weeks ago, which is why I was asking. I'm not complaining, and I completely understand the complexities. I'm just trying to manage my devices capacity, so they are ready when they do go out.

I read on some other threads that new work for Linux was on the way. I've idled my Linux computers from other projects in anticipation of getting new CPDN work. Anyone have any idea how long it will be? Not an exact date, but are we talking like weeks or months? If it's going to be a while I can spin it up with other tasks temporarily. Thanks!

I had the same error on my 1006 task today. No idea what it is. Hopefully someone can give better advice than just "Google it"

I have 3 1001 tasks still running. Should I terminate them? I don't wantto waste resources if they are likely to fail.

Hmm. I didn't think it was, which is why I asked. Strange to be having the same problem at the same time. The probability of that seems rather low.

I also have 3 WAH WU's running on a Windows computer and I haven't seen it upload anything in days. Is this the same issue that is affecting OpenIFS? I seem to be having at least some luck with that.

Thanks everyone! It was also adding extra spaces when I tried to copy and paste the command from the message. Before I saw this, I looked through the "Main" archive and found ++6. Ran this and it worked:

sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses6 lib32z1 lib32stdc++6

Do I need to rerun it with the ++8-dev files, or should I leave it? As Richard pointed out, it goes up to 11 now, so not sure which is best.

Thank you! I replaced it with a 6 and it worked before I read this. The command I was copying from the thread also had double spaces between the parameters, which needed to be single. Also, I dropped the -dev. I did not see an 8 option in the "main" archive, only as a -dev file:

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish/main amd64

So, this ran and installed everything without issue:

sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses6 lib32z1 lib32stdc++6

II ran each one separately on one computer, and the other I did it as a single script. Both worked. Is this sufficient, or do I need to run it with an 8 and/or -dev?

I was running the command at the beginning of this thread:

sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses6 lib32z1 lib32stdc++-7-dev

And that's what I got. I assume it's because it's for up to 20.04, and I have not been able to find a command that works in 21.10. I'll browse through your link and see if something jumps out.

I recently installed Ubuntu 21.10 on two computers. I am new to Linux, so I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong, but I can't get any of the commands in this thread to work for installing the 32 bit libs. All I get is:

E: Unable to locate package lib32stdc++-7-dev
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'lib32stdc++-7-dev'

Same goes for -6 and -5. Am I missing some step?

Thanks. That's unfortunate. Any idea when new Linux tasks will be available? I would at least like to know that I have the right libs installed.

Ok, so I haven't received a WU on my windows computer in 7 months. So I converted 2 computers to Linux specifically for CPDN. The project didn't have tasks at first, but now it has tasks. And I'm getting nothing. What gives? No tasks have ever downloaded, so I didn't crash a bunch of WU's with no 32 bit lib. Also other projects are running fine. I feel like I'm in the -1 penalty box. Ubuntu 21.10 on both. I'm new to Linux, so any advice is appreciated. One is a AMD A-8 7600 with 8 gb of ram and the other is a AMD FX8350 with 16gb Ram.

I also cannot get this to run on either device:

sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses6 lib32z1 lib32stdc++-7-dev

It just says "E: Unable to locate package lib32stdc++-7-dev". I got another one to work, but I don't know if it's the same.

Thanks.

Thanks Les. Yes, I have read that. I just didn't think that meant zero, especially if your running 24/7. I've read others mentioning running BIONIC on a Linux VM. Is that worth doing or should I stick with another project? Unfortunately, there is no other climate specific project that I am aware of, and that is where I would like to contribute. WCG runs an Africa Rainfall project, but that has wound down and will end next year.

First time posting, but long time user. Starting 5 months ago, I have not received a single task. Yes, it's a Windows 10 computer, but its always on and always running BOINC. I know Windows tasks are fewer and further between, but this seems odd. Do I have an issue on my end? Computer is a home built on a Gigabyte board with::

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19043) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~4.5GHz
Memory: 32768MB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Thanks!

Thank you guys for responding. It seems that tolu's fix has worked. All of my computers downloaded work today. I think i'm going to give SETI the boot (their servers seem to be in bad shape) and give climate and einstein more time. If they get up and running again, I'll allot them some time on my slower computer.
Thanks again.

I have been having the exact same problem. I have four computers. I got one to connect and download yesterday, but could not get any of the other three to connect. They all say the same "Message from server: No work available" message as from above. Plenty of space and all are connected to the net. Please help. If this project is finished, I would like to utilize my computers for another Bionic project.

I have 3 computers ready to go with bionic 4.19. I'm getting the Message From Server: No work available on all computers all day now. Computers are on different networks and are not proxyed. Some of the computers have not even downloaded the program yet. Is there a server problem?
