1) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC failed after upload of model (Message 5186)
Posted 10 Oct 2004 by old_user574
Post:
Boinc crashed after upload of model 28195 had to reboot and lost model 28196 (70% complete) and it downloaded model 258536 which it started crunching but no 28196 also BOINC gui was using 50% cpu so something happened.

I reverted to a saved copy of boinc from a few hours ago so model 258536 is lost I will see if this happens again.
2) Questions and Answers : Windows : Was Running Fine Till Another Fortran Runtime Error (Message 2802)

I started that, I have a HP Pavilion a562n P4 3.0E

I had a program on my computer (HP Imagezone Plus 3.5) that caused alot of problems so I removed it and it solved my probelms with BOINC and a number of other things.

My problems were with BOINC v4.05 but I didnt have problems with v4.03 in beta.

Also reading on ZDNet I found an article saying that those with oem Windows may need to apply patches before installing SP2 or conflicts may occur, this artical pointed to Dell and HP and said owners of other computers with oem Windows should check with manufactures for updates.

I checked and found HP Imagezone Plus 3.5 was one of those programs.

How this effects BOINC I dont know but this is also happening just as SP2 is comming out.

So I dont think this is a HP specific problem.
3) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Run one wu on 2 cpu\'s (Message 2601)

Post:
If you have 2 cpu's this is not possible a model can only run on 1 cpu,
However if you have a P4 with HT then you can goto preferences page and change the number of cpu's to 1, Reboot go into BIOS and turn off HT save and reboot, BOINC should start running 1 model.

> Sorry, sorry Guys. This was my first holiday since 4 years. It might be
> helpfull if someone with this error could send me his client_state.xml and his
> sched_x xml files to oliver@kliebisch.net. A white Screen can only happen in
> the program if you are using a java version older than 1.4(or might be 1.5
> beta It's full of bugs) or the program has a problem with reading the XML
> Files.

The other problem is CPDNSpy wont run if winrar is installed, I had to uninstall winrar to get it to work.

Can you make CPDNSpy an .exe rather a .jar file?

> yeah I'm upgrading the BOINC server software and in the middle of moving over
> new stuff
>

Oh I was going to other BOINC sites to see if it was my problem or a board problem, I just installed a sound card to take overhead off the computer from the intergrated sound thought I might have messed something up.

HP Pavilion a562n P4 3.0E 512mb

I got the same message, HP loads a bunch of garbage software on its computers, Delete HP's software in add\remove programs or remove them from memory in task manager.

That fixed my problem anyhow.

I installed 4.05 over 4.03 and it reports 4.05 as a beta as well,
Is this an artifact of installing over 4.03?

It did the same thing to me as well, when the time shown ran out I connected fine but it seems to want that time to run out.

10) Questions and Answers : Getting started : Double Processor HT (Message 965)
Posted 14 Aug 2004 by old_user574
Post:
> There was a lot of debate (on the BOINC beta board and elsewhere) about the
> > 1 cpu/2 cpu/ HT
>
> The conclusion that I came to was that there was little benefit from running
> HT so I switched it off on my intel P4 3.06 PC and set my Prefs to 1 cpu for
> this PC.
>
> The situation may be different for AMD cpu's.
>
> K.
>
>
>

I'm running a P4 3.0E 512Mb DDR800 PC3200 with HT and am getting;
Model 1, 3.01 s/TS
Model 2, 3.12 s/TS
It should take me 28 cpu days to complete 2 models, from looking at other
P4 3.0E cpu's with HT off it should take on average 33 cpu days to complete
2 models.
Thats 5 days faster for 2 models but thats guessing at this point and we will
have to wait and see.
