Hi

Thanks. Yes there was a Boinc entry in my startup folder which I\'ll remove shortly. I\'ll just shut down Boinc in the normal way (snooze and exit) and then create a shortcut to the manager to start it again - seems like the easiest way.

Problem solved -thanks

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

You are correct, I do run Boinc version 6.2.18. I do not run it as a service however.

Sorry, but I need to clarify what you mean.
Firstly, I presume you mean pressing the suspend button under the \"tasks\" tab - is that after putting it in snooze mode or can I just suspend it adhoc.

Second: You say you then run Boinc manager to resume. Does that mean double clicking on boincmgr.exe in the Boinc folder? (or a shortcut to the exe) Can I presume the \"suspend\" button doesn\'t have to be pressed again to resume the calculations?

Thanks again

Hi

Foe various reasons I would rather not have Boinc load automatically when I switch my PC on.

Could you tell me the safest way I can disable this, and also the best way to start Boinc running again.

Many thanks

Success:)

Boinc sucessfully crunched past the previous sticking/crash point.

Thak goodness I had backed up just the day before. I used to let to it run to 3 or 4 days between backups...not any more. It\'ll be every other day from now on.

Its a good feeling being able to fix something succesfully - your help was invaluable. Thankyou.

A Merry Christams to all.

Thanks for the reply.

So do I just stop Boinc in the normal way, and then, after backing up the current model, apply the previous models backup, or do I have to \"suspend\" the model first?

I\'ll definately give it a go...

Thanks for the fast replies. I do have a recent backup, but Boinc downloaded and started another model. Not sure if killing one model to try and save another is worth it.

I think I\'ll leave the option to \"allow new tasks\" on as default. It would be nice if Boinc gave you the option after a crash to try a backup file before starting another model.

Btw, it\'s a funny way of thinking when an option button stating \"allow new tasks\" means exactly the opposite of what it says. To quote from an old comedy show...\"Confused? you will be...\"

Hi

Today, I came back from work to find the hadcm3istd model I was crunching had crashed :(

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=8099696

The long list of \"stderr out\" error messages don\'t mean a great deal to me, although the last few lines say:

\"Model crashed: umshell1.f: TRANSO2A: Missing data in ocean UV fields\"

I haven\'t changed anything on my PC (software etc), the only thing I can think of is that I\'ve been \"locking\" my PC when leaving the house. (Start -> Lock)

It also crashed roughly about the time the next trickle was due...

Was there anything I could have done to prevent the crash?

Thanks for any insights.

Hi

This morning I suspended then exited Boinc to get the usual windows update patches.

Everything seemed a bit slower to start up, but thats not unusual. I then go and check the messages on the Boinc client. What does this mean?

If its of any interest, I find that when initially starting a hadam3h workunit, whether for the first time or after I backup/reboot, the graphics are never available till after the next trickle has been uploaded.
Maybe its just patience that is required

I use version 5.10.45

Why are there two settings for disk space? One asks for, \"Use at most xx Gb\" and the other asks for \"Use at most xx %\" disk space - which takes precedent?

This might start to expain things:

\"Note that \'Use at most\' includes both Boinc and non-Boinc use of disk space. So if you are using 100GB of non-boinc space, and 5GB of Boinc, you need to have \'Use at most\' set to over 105GB.\"

Is related to the graph on the \"Task details\" page not being updated as well? I\'m crunching 2047, and the graph is still showing 2041.

Hi
I really just want clarification that what I have done is safe and correct...

The automatic defrag option in diskeeper 2007 seems to take second place to Boinc when grabbing spare cpu cycles. It simply doesn\'t work when boinc is running. Fair enough.

In order to allow diskkeeper to do its job I set the preference to allow boinc to run between midnight and 23:30 everyday. That leave half an hour for diskkeeper. See picture:

Is this set correctly and will it interfer with any zip uploads or bionc operations?

Thanks for your help.

I feel kind of silly asking this, but I\'ll live with it :)

On the main user account page there is a list of boinc stats link. Why do the links forever change positions relative to each other? Its rare they ever update at the same time, nor even give out the same stats...at least that I can make sense of

Its petty I know, but annoying...

I\'ve not heard of this before but you could try the Microsoft uninstaller.

Thanks, I plucked up the courage and downloaded the microsoft program. I selected Boinc from the list and pressed remove.
I then went through the boinc folder and was able to uninstall all the various programs inside and delete the whole folder. I then used a registry cleaner to mop up what was left.

Finally I rebooted. No problems, no error messages :)

Thanks again. I hope to restart boinc when I finally get my Laptop fixed.

Martin

Hi

I\'m having a few problems with my laptop at the moment. In order to try and track the problem down, I decided to unistall Boinc.

Unfortunatly, I\'m getting error messages saying I need to insert a cd rom to remove it. I have uploaded them to imageshack so you can have a look. The second image is the error message that follows the first image:

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/6274/im14rh.jpg

and the error message:

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2940/im25ou.jpg

This is symptomatic of the problems I\'m having. Can anybody help? Can I uninstall Boinc manually?
I have also tried a 3rd party unistaller, but that was stopped by my system from removing boinc.

Thanks for any help

I have had similar problems, especially when starting boinc and finding its in idle mode.
To get boinc restarted and working, I first close the program by right clicking on the system tray and then pressing exit.

Then I restart boinc via the start menu, which usually produces an error message about not being able to connect. Click \"OK\" and close boinc down down a second time via the system tray.

Finally restart boinc again, and all the problems seem to have corrected themselves.

Not very scientific I know, but it works every time. It always follows the same routine.
Hope this helps

(As there is no significant work to be lost.)

I think you should try a project reset.

If that doesn\'t get anywhere then dettach climateprediction.net and reattach.

Thanks
