1) Message boards : Number crunching : "No tasks sent" (Message 62414)

I am also curious about an inability to get any tasks. I have a new-ish computer purchased in 2019, running Windows 10. I have allocated twice the resource share to Climate Prediction than any other project. 6 months ago I was receiving tasks, and completing in a week or two tasks that had a deadline a year away. It's been several months since I've received any new tasks, despite dozens of "update requests- often several times a day (for months now). Any theories as to why I suddenly get no tasks when I've successfully completed tasks ahead of schedule- demonstrating my computer is up to the job of crunching this project. I even tried dropping all other projects, So there would be no competition with "Climate Prediction."

Thank you. Yes, I looked around, and am successfully running these projects at home on a lesser computer, so that is what prompted me to post here. I thought maybe there was a glitch somewhere else in the system that someone might recognize from the "boincmgr" messages I posted. I think you figured it out before, with the file size constraint theory. I have seen that some projects are larger than others, so I will try something smaller, and see whether I can get the files past whatever constraints are in the path outside my computer. Thanks again, you have been most helpful.

I hope that you had a look around this site before you started.
These models aren't something that were put together in a few weeks. They are the full-blown climate models that were created over many decades by the people at the UK Met Office, and normally run on their supercomputers.

The type that you're trying to download has LOTS of files, some common to all of this model type, and 6 that get downloaded for each model. One of the latter is 75 Megs. And, of the 3 zip files that get uploaded on completion, one is 25 Megs, and another is 17 Megs.

Then there are the Coupled Ocean models, which, on a fast computer doing nothing else, run for 3 months.

The only model type that might be suitable for you, are the latest incarnation of the original slab models, hadsm3. I haven't run one of these for a very long time, so I'm not sure how big the files are.

The messages indicate that the files were truncated before all of it was received.
A lot of the files are quite large, so the problem is most likely a piece of hardware between Oxford and your computer which is limiting the download size.

The first place to check would be locally if the computer is in a business or academic location. Next would be your ISP.

Thank you. I am in an academic/research environment. Perhaps I'm bumping up against an institutional limit, although a few days ago I did get a message that a download completed- but BOINC mgr still read "downloading". Could it have been sending another type of file, and not a work file? Unfortunately, I no longer have that message saved. Incidentally, I actually detached from my other projects for a while to see whether that was a problem. They had just finished their work, so I didn't interrupt anything on those projects. Perhaps I can take only the smallest jobs on CPDN, and sneak them past the institutional limits, if that's the problem.

I have been unable to run any work units for over a week. I get messages such as the ones below. I also get message (not shown) that indicate that downloads were successful. However, in my BOINC manager v. 6.6.20, my "task" status always reads "downloading". I have a T1 line, so a message like this for days on end seems problematical. I've tried suspend-resume and resetting the project, in case there was a corrupted packet or hung bit that needed to be reset. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.
