Who cares? What difference does this really make to the crunching we are doing?

As long as people aren't doing silly TOSable things does it matter who posts and who doesn't?

Cafe CPDN is for rambling musings anyways.

When you find the answer...next search for how many angels can dance on the head of a pin :P It's probably a more important question anyways...

Well we quickly met our 2 short term goals...we got into the top 20 and achieved the other one also :) #17 at climateprdiction now and #31 for all of BOINC and we are still rising...with your help we can reach even higher levels.

If you like flying the flag then team USA is what your looking for...we crunch for humanity and we are proud of our country also. We don't feel the need to hide that and you'll notice most of the big teams of BOINC are country orientated(UK, germany,Netherlands,France, czech, Australia, Canada, etc have large ones for sure) teams. And also remember that a Man without a country is a man without a home...

Help us get to the top and show pride in your country and yourselves.

Still growing and we crunch in many other BOINC projects. Our newest we have a team in is LHC...which we are #1 in by RAC(#2 by total credits...hope to make that #1 soon).

At Climate Prediction the short term immediate goal is to get on the front page and into the top 20(which is looking very likely very soon) and you can maybe guess the immediate secondary goal IF your perceptive and read through all the posts here :)

Goal of team is crunching for all the good BOINC projects out there and contributing to science...team rankings are a fun motivator to this end.

So help USA out and crunch for the good cause!!!

there is a thread in the old forums on just this subject.

My feeling is that crunching for distributed projects is #1 a way to use existing resources for the better good of ALL. And #2 it's a hobby for many people to crunch for these projects. As a hobby that contributes to science it's a better use of resources then using that money for a HOT SKI boat with twin v-8's burning 15 gallons of fuel an hour as far as pollution goes. Look at the alternative uses that people would spend time and money on for a hobby...I think the project isn't bad at all on the environment.

As long as the project is sound and the results of it will be beneficial it's not a waste of resources. I do think though that at some point that old and basically out of date equipment should be retired...no use running a old computer that takes 2 years to complete a WU when a slightly newer computer using about the same energy consumption could get that same WU done in 6 months.

The fact that cdpn BOINC doesn't work on computers running old OS's like 98 and NT means they have a built in cull of older equipment...for the most part.

welcome to the team.

The reason part of your sig isn't working is that you were not member of team USA at predictor where the personal stats are derived from for the sig. The team totals are working in your sig though.

We did very well while predictor was running so I'm proud to fly it in any of the BOINC forums...we ended up 10th by RAC and 14th overall in credits(when it moves to BOINC 4 we hope to get even higher). USA should do well at climatepredictor also...and soon enough we'll have a way to show that too.

We're going to make new sigs to reflect the mult-project status of the team(we have a team at LHC@home also now!) and redesign the web site for USA to reflect that also...right now duane is a bit busy but as he gets time he's sure to make a new one up.

Yep 0 gets rid of the floating logo...the stars looked cool though. It would be nice to have a toggle just for the logo to axe it.

It's too bad my old wu's got ejected into space though...I was on stage 2 finally and only another 900 cpu hours and I could have finished it.

I brought another computer on-line to make up for it though...team USA is growing also now.

climateprediction.net swaying across the screen in the screensaver is cheesy and ugly looking....

any way to turn it off? the screen saver for the 4.03 beta looked...much, much, much nicer without climateprediction.net bouncing all over the screen saver.

Also with all the different versions of boinc running around...if you accidently start the wrong one if you have several on your system it destroys your data and it resets the project. I wasn't too happy about that one...but oh well. Down to just 4.05 on the system as I deleted everything else.

People from predictor@home also.

Your going to find more BOINC users that want to run practical projects here. SETI@home is somewhat pie in the sky stuff...there may or may not be any life out there and it may NEVER succeed. Things like predictor@home and climatepredictor have goals likely to get accomplished and likely we will see the fruits of this labor in our lifetimes and possibly benefit from this work directly someday.

Seti@home on BOINC I think will eventually incorporate other science besides the search for ET...but untill then you will tend to find the more practical minded running BOINC projects that have a goal more likely to be attained.

Of course this project almost requires a full time computer going 24/7 to run it...the WU'S are so long as to scare off the casual users afraid of what is basically a full-time committment to this project. BOINC 4 with project sharing working will help alot in that end...it's probably the BEST THING to ever happen to this project.

The nice thing about BOINC is choices. You can run 1, 2, or all 3 projects(soon) if you want on the same computer with more projects coming along. There will be something for everyone.

Are some of you so cheap you can't start your own recruiting threads?

USA is a very successfull team with predictor at home being the first BOINC project it was involved in...I think some teams over there are envious of our success as we are certain to be in the top 10 eventually over there. Which is pretty good for a new team.

Teams are what the members make of them...USA is a great team and it's because of all the wonderfull members that joined and crunch for the greater good of humanity.

I see no reason team USA can't be as successfull at climateprediction.

But it's up to you, my patriot countrymen and other honorable citizens of the world, to make this happen. I know I can count on you all.
