Well to restate my original thought about a WU with no Trickle in 90 Days (assuming that it is not one of the batches known to have trickle issues.

If a USER has so many WU's queued that he can't get it started in 90 days they have too many WU's and needs to release so others can do science.

OR

If the user has reloaded an OS and no longer has access to the "assigned" WU to work it... Then it is Orphaned and should be re-cycled

How hard would this be to implement ?

We have about 7000 active Users running about 9000 active systems and there are about 103000 WU's out being worked now.

That works out to 11 WU's per active system.

I have a system that needs a WU but there are none available.

Under the heading of Orphaned WU's if the system has a WU that has not Trickled in 90 days and the WU is not one of the known groups with Trickle issues. Could these be aborted by the Project and reissued ?

Science is science it should be completed !!!

Thanks

Well we were chugging along getting Credits posted every 6, 7 or 8 days which was WONDERFUL.

We are now at Day 9 on our current string. Did we have a holiday across the Pond or do we have a stuck script ?

I know that it is never wise to question the Wizard of Oz, but as the National Inquirer says "inquiring Minds Wish To Know"

New Versions of BOINC (Version 7.14.2) Development Version are now available for testing for Windows, Linux and Macintosh.

These versions address issues discovered so far during testing. Latest BOINC Client Development releases for Mac and Windows platforms is available on the BOINC public download site:

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

After upgrading from 7.12.1 to 7.14.2 on a Win 7 AMD box new BOINC picked up a Weather At Home 2 (wah2) v8.24 WU in progress and has trickled twice. So far so good.

Ok everyone is looking for the small baby steps to full recovery.... Export of Stat's started back up in a very limited fashion on Aug 24th.

Check out the Host stats listed below and you can see where they stopped exporting and when they resumed.

That I5-5200U system is a Dell Inspiron laptop. Not real well endowed at 6Gb ram and it is not crunching for about 5 hours per day (heat of the day hot room issue).

It is also crunching for 12 other projects.

If the numbers still look like Training Wheel numbers I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Interesting before the Great Crash ... CPDN... not the Stock Market.

We had so many users active that getting a WU was a prize. We have lost so many active users that WU's are laying in the system begging to be taken.

How times change.

Just an observation on the return to operational status. One view of the Project is external. What sites like BOINSTATS and similar sites see or harvest and Users track.

HOST Computer numbers have been updating daily since 07/14
TEAMS numbers have had a couple updates since 06/28
USERS numbers have not updated since 06/28
CREDIT numbers have not updated since 06/28 when negative corrections were made

I believe some of these stat's only update when the Credit Script runs.

Thanks

Yes old memories of paper tape loaded instruction sets. And 5 bit parallel Direct Current circuits provided for Sheraton Hotels by Western Union. It would bite real good if you put your finger where it should not have been.

5 Bit code was called Baudot code does anyone remember that code ? Or where it and the Baud in 2400 Baud modem came from ?

Any users of Wires Sonic Delay Lines out there? A whole 1K of quick, 600ms access, storage.

Started in 1968 and retired in 2016 ... 48 years one company with lots of name changes and mergers etc.

Well the newly built system has been consistently exporting Status daily since it came on line.

I see this as a very positive indication that once the WU data bases and histories are restored and reconciled that we may be in a very good place in deed.

A special thank you to those who are doing the work to not only make this happen but also to those who validate and monitor the progress steps.

Thanks again

Dave,

Your reply was definitely not too aggressive. You made a large number of valid points and I admit that I was too broad in some of my statements.

That said taking your lead that Oxford has a fine IT Department which supports a broad number of higher learning schools is probably true, but unless you have inside information that this volunteer community would love to hear something is wrong.

My concerns now might be that the extraordinary IT Department at Oxford is either over worked or possibly under staffed or incorrectly supervised.

I make the above based on the length and severity of this outage and the length of the last total outage. I have just stated two apparently observable facts.

I also have to admit I have no inside information on the priorities that have set for the Oxford IT Department. They may be supporting another Nobel quality project and for that reason they are unable to support the Climate Prediction project as they might want to.

So I will patiently continue to monitor Climate Prediction for life in the future as I believe that their goals are great. I will also use my systems to support other worth while science related projects while waiting.

Respectfully

Well Oxford is a noted academic institution... for the Arts. It it is not known as an IT related power house. So we will wait for our staff and their staff to resolve the issues.

Consider that while this project is important to the world, at Oxford it is probably unknown to most of the campus or student body. It is not in their world of interest or awareness.

Until we can crunch again we will crunch for other science related projects.
