1) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Overcommitted HT (Message 21573)
Posted 25 Mar 2006 by deprecated
Post:
I\'m running BOINC 5.2.13 on SuSE 9.1 on a 3.2Ghz HT. Projects are CPDN (200), SETI (100) & Einstein (100). Prior to this version of BOINC, this mix of projects kept CPDN running all the time and the other two trading time. With the upgrade to 5.2.13 and a fresh HADCM3 model, whenever SETI or Einstein download workunits, the overcommitted message comes up, CPDN is suspended and both running processes switch to that other project until all its WU are exhausted. CPDN is then allowed to run again until something else downloads and the cycle starts again. I have not seen anything like this on the boards.

Is anyone else seeing anything similar?
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit for trickles? (Message 15386)

You get about 94.52 cobbles per trickle recalculated about twice per day.

Crandles,

All my numbers crunched have been crunched for MadPenguin.org.

For several runs, we linux users could not complete runs due to changes in the client that linux didn't like.

And finally, with the other outstanding issues we already know about is the "I sent in all my trickles and it still doesn't show complete" error.

I do have a few models in each of these last two catagories. Did I miss where Carl said that teams only get credit for completed runs only?

Thank You Carl for the explanation. I do see my individual cobbles growing each day, however, MadPenguin's team stats don't grow at the same rate and are somewhat less than my individual numbers. Looking at the history graphs <a href="http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_graph.php?pr=cp&amp;id=67">here</a> (and following the link to my individual numbers) you can see what I mean.

I guess I don't understand how they can be different.

Anyone else notice that Team Credits (at least for MadPenguin.org) haven't moved since the 6th when we got back some of what went away on the 3rd?

What's wrong with this picture?

All cobblestones collected by /me should also have been collected by Team MadPenguin.

Doesn't BOINC keep track of what PC it sent the workunit to and only accept the answer from that pc? This was a "feature" to help prevent fraud.

Short answer is nope.
9) Message boards : Number crunching : Full Run Not Showing Completed (Message 12755)
Posted 21 May 2005 by deprecated
Post:
My last two completed models (one from each computer running cpdn) have been granted full credit and show full result graphs but do not indicated they are completed. The models that started running after them are trickling per normal. Is this something I should be concerned about? Both PCs are running Linux and Boinc 4.19.

I've not had a core client change in many moons... this is the CPDN program following all the Linux lost work unit problems from March.

Is it just me or does the new Linux client call for more work near the end of phase one (instead of phase three) for everyone? The last three models have done it. Not necessarily a problem, but definitely an oddity.

I've been running cpdn without problems for some time. Since upgrading to 4.19 &amp; adding Einstein I've had three model's die. One due to the hadsm3 4.10 to a linux computer problem and the last two with exit code 251 (<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=594223">594223</a> &amp; <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=603305">603305)</a>. Any ideas if it is just a bad batch of models, a problem with 4.19 or the combination of cpdn, seti &amp; einstein?

I just completed a model and started a new one on one of my PCs (<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/workunit.php?wuid=392922">here</a>) the problem is, the [hadsm3um_4.10_i] process goes defunct shortly after start up. Not in the same place each time but always with in the first 50 timesteps. I have rebooted just to ensure clean memory maps but this model just doesn't want to run. Anyone have any ideas?

The only way to get past the delay with linux (I'm not sure if this applies to other os's too) is to edit the client_state.xml file and then do a manual update.

To do this, you need to shut down the client, open the client_state.xml file with a text editor and find the line (50 to 55 lines down from the top) that references min_rpc_time. Change the number that appears on the line (between the min_rpc_time and the /min_rpc_time) to zero. save the changes and then restart the client with the -update_prefs flag. This will clear any long waits and exchange all waiting data.
