Hi,

Yesterday and today I have had a series of notices (5 or 6) demanding more space - lots more space.
today's one says:
Notice from server
UK Met Office HadAMP3P-HadRM3P Australia New Zealand needs 1269.35 MB more disk space. You currently have 638.05 available and it needs 1907.35MB.
The previous messages were the same, but for slightly different project names.
the properties box says disk usage 3.37GB
Please tell me what is going on.
2) Message boards : Number crunching : teething troubles with preferences (Message 48466)

I loaded this in response to the Radio 4 program.
I have previously taken part in the Nutritious Rice program which I was greatly happy to do.
I think that this is also a worthwhile project,
BUT I have had some problems with the computing preferences.
I am glad to say that I now seem to have overcome them and the project is now working as I want it to.
First I set it to defaults and it did no work at all for a few days.
Then I set it too high and it did loads of work but slowed my 'puter to a crawl, and interfered with my streaming video, - I have a slow connection.

Tips :
do not allow it to stay in swap space.
Set Cpu usage to around 60%
set in use to be around 3 - 5 mins

HTH

Thanks all.
The best answer is just to turn off the screen saver!
Shame, but much less irritating!

I want to see the screen saver!
It is my screen after all!
how do I stop this irritating thing?
I do not believe that the message loafing screen saver than showing it for a few seconds then cycling again uses less CPU time than loading it and leaving it!
