My other project is Folding@home which is outside the Boinc ecosystem. But you have given me the idea to just reduce the core count a little on that project so I leave an opening for future potential CPDN work.
Thanks.

As a Windows user who has completed some units, does it make sense now to set “no more work” so that I can process work from other projects? Until the next batch of Windows units comes along, whenever that is.

Same here. As the project appears to be new, there are probably some kinks that need to be worked out (hopefully soon!)

Unfortunately access to the article linked to in the NY Times piece isn't free to access but my understanding of the climate models that we run here is that they use sequential computing with each calculation depending on the result from the previous one. In that scenario, the increased computing power of a supercomputer may not give as much benefit as is suggested.

What is not in doubt is that switching from 25Km squares (the highest resolution of current model types) to 1Km squares would make tasks even on the fastest PC's take several months.

This link may be better (hopefully!).

No need to hurry now. The models have been rushed into intensive care.

I assume that we should continue to process the ones we have, and hope they complete sucessfully?

Thanks!

Last night I set up Ubuntu 14.04 in VMWare Player on one machine. Linux is a bit tricky, with me being used to Windows all my life. That being said, the "floodgates" (so to speak) will be opened up for this app once a Windows version is released! Hopefully that is in the works?
