The 3 Windows batches are showing early signs of failures, but no hard fails yet, so I can't see what the problem is.

Still only four hard fails across all three batches and looking at the successes coming in I think we can say these EU tasks don't have the same problem the SAFR ones did.

Yes, the EU seem to be a good batch. Had 2 WU’s finish successfully this morning (Eastern Standard Time U.S.). Three more should finish in a few hours (knock wood).

The Windows models are starting to finish.

From just under 3 days, to 3.75 days.
Yes, my i5 finished 5 today and 1 in a few hours time. But the newer chips like Ryzens are slower per core. As for anyone without a fast machine, they're going to be a while. My Xeon X5650s for example look like they'll take 40 days, which is longer than the SAFR ones! Which is weird, as the i5 is faster with the EU ones. Different programming?

My 3 I5 2.6 GHz laptops seem on track to finish the batch 892 WU’s in about 5.5 to 6 days. This is running them on only 2 cores on each not all 4.

That's why it's called "snail mail". :)

One of the things that Trumps Postmaster General did last year was sabotage the mail system in an effort to prevent people from voting by mail. It didn’t work, the mail-in ballots killed him, but it did slow down the mail quite a bit.
12? [giggle] Sorry. I have 89 on 7 computers. Global warming is occurring inside my house, these things make a lot of heat!
My machines are 3 laptops with only 4 cores (2 physical and 2 hyperthreaded) each. So 12 is a lot for me. Also I managed to snag 10 more before the supply ran out.

GREAT NEWS! MORE WORK FOR WINDOWS. I just managed to download12 of the new batch (batch 892) on 3 machines. Hopefully, these will be better that the last Windlows batch. I downloaded 6 of those and every one of them crashed.

Edited for typo.

You are not the only one. We are stuck in the days of Pentium 1 when it really used to take a year.

Longest any of mine took was just under 11 months. In those days, you really did not want to have a computer that was not running 24/7 for CPDN.

And that was on a single core machine with a 1.2 GHz processor and 256 KB of Ram. The swap file got a lot of use. The 160 year models took 3300 hours to finish.

YES! For the first time in about 6 month I got 6 new windows tasks. Hopefully this marks the return of work for computers running Windows..

There is a testing batch out at the moment but I don't know if this is going to lead to main site work or not.

This new test batch, is it just more penguin food or is there some hope that we might see more Windows work before the Sun burns out.

I don't know about everyone else, but I have been crunching for WGC on their Open Pandemic COVID tasks. It seems like a good cause now that the Linux work here has dried up for the time being.

I’ve also been running OpenPandemic, alone with the odd WU’s from the African Rainfall Project.

Hello, did everyone go on Summer vacation, or is it just a total lack of new work that keeps anyone from posting.

Is batch 871 still open? I just received 2 Wu’s (both _2s). They have failed on 2 other machines. They must be 3 or 4 months old. Are they still needed an wanted.

I now have about 50 zip files that I can’t upload. I am suspending the 8 CP Wu’s running on my 2 machines until they get the server problem sorted out. Back to Rosetta and WCG.

The server down at the bottom of the planet is being attacked by thousands of Windows computers, and is getting a bit battered and bruised.
It may take some time to recovery, so Patience.

Ommmmmm ...

it might be a good idea if everyone reading this was to suspend uploads for a day or so, so as to take some of the pressure off the server while it gets caught up. Nothing will be lost.

The year long deadline may be partly historical. Back when this project started the slow computers (1.2 GHz) single core machines took 8 or 9 months (running 24/7) to complete the very long 160 year models. They needed the long deadlines. Now, not so much.
The "BOINC deadline" is long to prevent cpdn from hogging the processors, when other very much shorter projects are run at the same time.
This has been posted about for years.

A shorter deadline, something on the order of 4 to 5 months, would seem to be in order as that seems to be how long the Researchers are willing to wait before they close the batches. There is no sense in running models that no one is ever going to look at because the batch was closed by the time you finished it.
