1) Message boards : Number crunching : How many hours are in a day? (Message 40183)

Post:
I don't know if this could be of help but on the Seti project they have enabled a new page under every participants computer details called "Application details".
This page lists information on which applications have been run on the host and what quotas are in affect.

I don't know how to enable this page or if the servers are running the same version of the software.

For an example this is how it looks. And this is the computer details page. I just picked some one because I haven't run Seti as of late.

If this could be enabled here it might show some light one the problems at hand.

Installed bonic 4.25 over 4.19 about 40 min ago and all is working fine so far. Just a note, I did not have any wu in cache or in progress when doing this.

Can't remember who said it but it's not over, restore a full copy of the boinc-folder and the server will catch up when a new trickle is recieved. If the trickle is already send before nothing should happen and the first that is new should get credit.

What happens when the result is completed and uploaded I can't say.

I've seen the same message when I push my computer alot. some other program taking all of the CPU-power and a lot of disk-activity at the same time. Every project that is currently in memory exits and then restarts as they should upon switching only losing the work done since last checkpoint. Doesn't seem too do any real damage...

CPDN workunits are a bit long.
On my P4 2,4 GHz one wu takes about 600 hours.
That's the way it is...

I the GUI go to projects tab and right-click climate then choose update.

The thing with BOINC is that it needs an address-book.
On the main site:
http://climateprediction.net/
there is a tag that tells BOINC what the address to the scheduler is.
Witch would be this address:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi

So if the main page is down or the tag is missing you get an error.

Correct me if i'm wrong =)

Attach with the same account ID and URL and all should be well.
But you can't countinue the old unit under BOINC.

You also need about 600 - 700 MB / Workunit in allocated diskspace. That's also under the general preferences.
4 GB should do it...

&gt; A month or so ago the situatuion was different: <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=331#1854">old thread initiated by me :)</a>
&gt; What has changed since then?

If a workunit runs normaly and do not crash only one will be sent. On the other hand if it does crash or doesn't finish normaly a second unit is created and sent to somebody else. This is normal to every BOINC-project so far.
12) Questions and Answers : Windows : \"Not enough disk space\" and \"Failed to clean up socket\" (Message 5022)
Posted 4 Oct 2004 by Holmis
Post:
Under general preferences on the web page under your account there are three options to set diskspace. Set them so that BOINC gets at least 600 MB of disk. CPDN needs at least 600 MB free to download a workunit.

As for the problem with windows socket, if I remember correct it's BOINCs way of telling you that it's already runing.

You should also choose to run only one firewall, I've heared that there can be problems if you run more than one.
14) Questions and Answers : Windows : Rebooted and lost my workunit (Message 4449)
Posted 21 Sep 2004 by Holmis
Post:
In the main BOINC directory there should be a file called client_state_prev.xml, that should be a backup of the client_state.xml. Rename to client_state.xml and you should be abel to resume lost work if the workunits are still on disk. The downside it that this action will cause the new workunits to be lost instead.

You should also merge your computers under your account, computers and then click on a computer id and do a merge at the bottom of the page.

&gt; &gt; Errm... which CPU is this on? Your P4 3GHz? Then it's normal, it may be
&gt; your
&gt; &gt; HyperThreading option that kicked in.
&gt; &gt; --------------------
&gt; &gt; Jordâ„¢
&gt; &gt;
&gt; It is on both boxes and no it is not HT cause I can not turn HT on unless I do
&gt; a complete reinstall of XP.
&gt;
&gt; I have had a couple of times when the CPDN cruncher stopped crunching, or at
&gt; least the cpu time and time to completion had stopped. This occurred right
&gt; after I was auto detached from Predictor and Pirates, because both sites were
&gt; down completely.... I had to shut BOINC down and restart and CPDN started
&gt; crunching again, may be this is the cause.....

Hi!
I also have two of the but there is a slight diffrence in the names.
On is called hadsm3um_4.03_windows_intelx86 and this is the one running
(69 h 20 min) the other one is called hadsm3_4.03_windows_intelx86 and this one is not getting alot of cpu-time (5 min). Both have been there since I started the workunit and all seems to be as it should so I will just leave it as it is.
17) Questions and Answers : Getting started : After a very short 1-2 minutes, I get \"hadsm... had a problem\" (Message 3024)

Just a tip, go to your accountpage and lock in the computer list, you have five computers with the same specs. If this is the same machine try to merge them. This has nothing to do with your problem but it's better for all, both your self and the project if you merge them.
When you detach and reattach a new id for your computer is created and a merge will have to be done. If you try the option to reset instead of detach the will be no new id.
