The errors seem to be associated with insufficient stack space and hadcm3 on Macs. There is a post about it here with links to other related posts.

Thanks\'. Didn\'t see that post and yes when I looked at the error messages, that is what I got. Followed the recommendation and deselected the HadCM3 models in preferences so that I won\'t get them.

Just returned to Climate. Have had 5 different units fail on two computers. These appear to fail almost immediately on my and other computers that attempt to run them and are as follows. No time lost crunching.

All units have the same Application and appear to be the same type. I am running Mac OS 10.5.5 on both my computers (Intel core duo 1.66 and core2 duo 3.06) However some failed on other platforms as well.

I do have other work units that are now processing correctly so not problem from my end, just wanted to make sure the team was aware of these.

10,802 timeslices equals a trickle. There are 72 trickles per work unit.

Do you see anything like this in the terminal that would indicate it has connected to upload?

That looks like it was just a very temporary network glitch. That all transpired in under a second.

The next line down it found the project and recognized the Host ID. You are up and running just fine.
6) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : saving work (Message 8402)

Welcome Alfredo, glad to have you on board.

Nothing special is really required. Quit the application running by typing "Control C" or "Command . (period)" Quit the terminal program and shut down your computer.

To restart, just open a terminal window
cd to the boinc folder
type ./boinc_4.19_powerpc-apple-darwin
hit return.

If you are using the full name of the program you can shorten it to save typing. I typically shorten mine to boinc_4.19 just to minimize typing. When you restart, it should remember the most recent save from where you left off. I set my preferences to write to disk every 10 minutes (in account general preferences) That way it will remember the last save point. You can set it for more or less.

BTW you will start to see credit after every 10,802 timeslices which equals a trickle. There are 72 trickles per work unit. You will get 94.52 cobblestones (credits) for each trickle.

The good news is you don't have to do it very often. Good simple instructions you wrote out too.

Here is a list of common CLI commands that should work with most BOINC projects.

The commands follow the "start" of boinc. You can issue multiple commands at once, just leave a space and remember to precede each command with the -
URL = the URL of the project you want to affect

-attach_project
Attach this computer to a new project.
(You must have an account with that project. You will be asked for the project URL and the account ID.)

-show_projects
Print a list of projects to which this computer is attached.

-detach_project URL
Detach this computer from a project.

-reset_project URL
Clear pending work for a project. Use this if there is a problem that is preventing your computer from working.

-update_prefs URL
Contact a project's server to obtain new preferences. This will also report completed results and get new work if needed.

-return_results_immediately
Contact scheduler as soon as any result done.

-run_cpu_benchmarks
Run CPU benchmarks. Do this if you have modified your computer's hardware.

-check_all_logins
If 'run if user active' preference is off, check for input activity on all current logins; default is to check only local mouse/keyboard

-exit_when_idle
Get, process and report work, then exit.

-allow_remote_gui_rpc
Allow GUI RPCs from remote hosts

-help
Show client options.

-version
Show client version.

Kay, Place the boinc application in a folder (The folder is a directory).

In the terminal window
type cd (small letters) a space, and then drag the "folder", not the application to the terminal window. That will automatically complete the path to the folder.
Hit return.
Now type the chmod ug+rx boinc_* and hit return.
It should give you no message, just a return to the prompt. If it gives you an error then instead of Boinc_* type the full name of boinc_4.05_powerpc-apple-darwin
If it just returns you to the prompt, then you are ready to go.
Type ./boinc_4.05_powerpc-apple-darwin (or ./boinc_* if that works).

Also, to make it easier, you can change the name of the application to just boinc_4.05 the same way you would for any file or program on the mac. That will make typing easier.

Post:
Yes, you need 10.3.x or later.

BOINC Dev has not been able to create a Mac Client that runs reliable under 10.2.x. I suspect a Jaguar compatible client will probably require some recoding, and that is pretty low on the to do list, from what I understand.

If you can get the 4.02 source code, you can try to re-compile under Jaguar but it is still a bit flakey.

The Jaguar compiles being used on Predictor and SETI are still hit and miss.

I don't think MacNN is going to try to do one any time soon.

Too many problems with the 3.20 BOINC compile for Jaguar 10.2.x as is. Seems to work okay with SETI, but has problems on predictor. Maybe when this project goes public, but not now.

Yep!! Though my Mac is over on predictor right now, I brought an Athlon 1900 over to this project. We have at least one other team member with his PowerMac running over here as well, and several watching to see how the beta goes, and waiting for public release.

Here is a step by step for Mac

1. Place "boinc_4.02_powerpc-apple-darwin" in a folder (directory) wherever you like.
2. Open a terminal window. When the prompt shows, type CD and then drag the folder into the terminal window. (this will complete the path) Hit return.
3. You will need to make the application executable so type chmod +x boinc_4.02_powerpc-apple-darwin. Hit return. Now you can run the program.
4. At the prompt type ./boinc_4.02_powerpc-apple-darwin (note you can shorten the name of the program to something easier to type) Hit return.
5. It will now start up and ask you for the URL and your account ID. Once you have entered those you will be up and running.

You can copy and paste in the URL and account ID, but make sure you don't have any extra spaces at the beginning or end.
