1) Questions and Answers : Windows : PC Crash (Message 10324)

Hi,

After much checking and testing my problem seems to be too high a tempature. I have withdrawn from the project until I can update my cooling on this PC.
The error which crashed the PC frequently was the STOP: 0x0000009C error, Microsoft Article ID: 329284. Some extra cooling fans are planned soon. I can not have my PC crashing out so I will restart after the fans are in.
My thanks to everyone who helped me with some very useful information.

&gt; and <a> href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2124"&gt;here</a>,
&gt; but here's a few pointers from memory.
&gt;
&gt; Is your system overclocked? (There's a specific warning about overclocking <a>
href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/tech_faq_boinc.php"&gt;here</a>).
&gt;
&gt; Apart from overclocking, the other likely reasons are overheating
&gt; (ventilation, heat sink or dust) or a PSU that can't give stable voltages
&gt; under full CPU load.
&gt;
&gt; You could try running the following tests to check out your hardware.
&gt;
&gt; <a href="http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm">GIMPS Prime95 torture test</a>
&gt; <a href="http://www.memtest86.com/">Memtest86</a>

Hi, I must thank everyone who took the time to reply to my original post.
I made a typing error on the amd Athlon XP speed. The following is the correct id for my CPU:
AMD Athlon XP
Core: Thoroughbred B
CPU Model: 8
Performance Rating: 2800+
Working Frequency: 2.25gHz
Package Type: OPGA
Operating Voltage: 1.65v
Operating Temp (Max): 85%c
L1:128KB
L2:256KB
Multiplier: 13.5
FSB 333mHz
Stepping Code: NIUGB
Manufactured: 2003
Week: 35 (25 August 2003)
Production Batch: M
Production: #1048
Laser Marker ID: 28
Process Technology: 0.12u

So accorrding to my knowledge it's not overclocked for this Asrock mobo. my apologies for the original mistake. Funny it does not happen to any other program except crunchin units on climateprediction.net. HYowever I'm going to try lowering the Multiplier to 12 and see if that cures it. I'll let u know the outcome.
Quote: "If it aint' broke dont fix it"
"If it works ok don't update it (BIOS)"
Thanks again for your help guys.

Kind regards,
Brian.

Hi, My PC; Home Brew Win XP Home SP2. AMD Athlon 2800+ Thoroughbred 2.5gHz Fsb 333. 1GB Ram 80Gb Hdd. On a ASROCK K7S8XE Mobo.
Crunching 2f77_200134156 using hadsm3 v4.04. my pc crashed and reported a error with BOINC. This has never happened before. I also crunch Seti@home and Einstein@home with no problems. It only happens when I crunch your wu's. Anyone else had this problem or am I alone with this one????

Hi, I have this problem too. I removed Seti, (u can always reconnect later as it's not running yet)climate then worked ok but the problems then started like 3 (three) total system crashes needing safe mode to reboot to last known good boot. Why? Don't know yet. Probably some incompatability. Still trying to find the answer. Seti is connecting ok but no WU'S yet.

My setup home built.
ASROCK K7S8XE V3.0 Mobo
Win XP SP2 OS
AMD Athlon 2800 2.5gHz (Thoroughbread Core)
512Mhz ddr ram
Invida 5200 128Mb ram

Well that was short lived. Since running Climatepredictions my PC crashed 3 times. and had to go to safe mode for a reboot to the last good installation.
Now thats not good so I have detached from the project for now untill I find a solution.

I also run Seti and that runs ok when it's up and running that is. I don't get the same problem with it. I'll try again after some diagnostic tests on the ole' PC.

&gt; &gt; It sounds as though you may not have completed the set up sequence by
&gt; &gt; attaching to each project. Click <i>settings</i> in the BOINC window. If
&gt; you
&gt; &gt; have and it didn't work, what messages do you get?
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; There's a helpful guide to BOINC on <a>
&gt; href="http://homepage.mac.com/pauldbuck/site-boinc/oman-app/app-over.html"&gt;Paul
&gt; &gt; Buck's site</a> you may find helpful.
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt;
&gt; Hi, I've now connected to the project at least thats the messages I get but no
&gt; WU's yet it just sits there with user active and no movment. I have sp2
&gt; installed and the fireall has bonic ticked as an excepton.
&gt; Very mysterious!
&gt;
&gt;
OK Iv'e now got it working by removing Seti then CP downloaded it's first workunit and it is going without any problem. I reconnected to Seti but Seti is still down. May be there is an issue between Seti&amp;CP working together, can anyone enlighten us??????

Hi Thanks for your answer. Yes I tried that and the answer was that I was already attached to the project. When senting a request to scheduler I also
get a 'succeeded' answer. I'll have a look at the help guide you gave and see if anyone else has solved this problem.

Cheers.
