I'm just letting it run rather than risk messing up the client_state.xml file.

It looks like, after 3 or 4 days, the SSETI debt is finally getting caught up. SETI was getting 2 hours to every one hour CPDN was getting. Now SETI is getting around 1.5 hours per CPDN hour.

I've seen several mentions (on this board) to the effect that 4.05 will catch up in a matter of hours rather than weeks, but I believe this is either not the case, or it was an intended change, but it's not working properly. It appears that it will indeed take at least 2 weeks for my resource share settings (67% CPDN, 33% SETI) to kick in.

Hmm. Okay, I understand that. Is there a way to reset the "debt" to zero (without resetting the projects) so that it computes at my preferences now, or do I just have to wait?

Edit: Thanks for the answer Carl. I should have looked down the board a bit more before posting... I seems that this has been asked before. :)

I have setup my BOINC preferences in CPDN with a 200 resource share, and in SETI with a 100 RS. This should, if I understand it all correctly, give CPDN the preference 67% of the time, and SETI 33% (and this is indeed what it says in the BOINC software).

What I am seeing is the opposite. CPDN only runs for an hour at a time. SETI on the other hand gets 2 hours every time.

Anyone else seeing this?

Edit:
The last 21 hours are as follows (# = # hours allowed to run)

CPDN 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
SETI 1 2 2 2 2 1 2 2

Well, it's still happening on every reboot. I have verified that it is not caused by NOD32 Anti Virus. Anyone find a solution yet?

I have the SP2 firewall turned off as I am using ZoneAlarm Pro (never had a problem with it even though a lot have).

Funny... My computer has a NForce2 chipset and *has* the problem, so I doubt that is it. :)

Just out of curiosity, uk_nick, are you running NOD32 antivirus? I'm asking because it was the cause of a previous problem.

Windows XP Pro SP2. I am logged in as administrator and have full read write access to all files.

I am running BOINC version 4.05 and the hadsm* versions are 4.03.

Every time I reboot, I get this error window:
-------------
BOINC Runtime Exception - 108 File Operation Failure
Failed to reopen stdout for diagnostics redirection (overwrite)
Filename: \'\\Boincsrc\\Main\\boinc\\lib\\diagnostics.C\'
Line: \'93\'

After I hit OK, it seems to run normally. I\'ve exited BOINC and restarted it with no error - it only happens after a reboot.

Yea, I was really getting discouraged about the project so I reinstalled the 3.2 version that SETI uses and I had the exact same problem. So, I started searching the SETI boards and someone had discovered the connection with NOD32... Anyway, I'm back at CPDN and chugging away! :)

Just a note on IMON: it's the real time internet monitoring module for NOD32. The module that monitors file access on the PC is called AMON. AMON does not have this problem.

Anyway, I posted a note about this issue on the NOD32 beta forums, so hopefully it will be fixed in the future.

Sorry for posting this as a new question, but it may help others who have this same problem...

It turns out that the cause of the \"bad first tag\" and \"Can\'t parse scheduler reply\" issue was the anti-virus program NOD32.

I am using a beta version that is Windows XP SP2 Security Center aware. It seems to be adding a carriage return at the beginning of the file \"sched_reply.xml\".

I disabled IMON and had no issues connecting to the project and downloading a model.

In order to re-enable IMON, I went into advanced setup , selected boinc_gui.exe and boinc_cli.exe as exclusions to IMON protection.

Hope this helps others! :)

I thought of the firewall issue but I've had it the entire time and it never caused a problem before. Having said that though, I did try disabling it and I am still not able to attach.

I restored a backup of the file "account_climateprediction.net.xml" from my previous install and all I get from it is the "Cannot parse scheduler reply, bad first tag" error message which has been going on for quite a while now.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, but I have its firewall disabled.

Currently, I am at a loss to get this working again. Any other suggestions?

I've done this several times by pasting the values from the email I received, and by typing them in manually.

One thing I noticed is that somehow, I had about 15 computers listed. I just merged them all into my original. I then tried to attach again and it created another. Could this all be related? This computer hasn't changed since I first joined.

After my previous problems with the error message, I decided to detach, uninstall and reinstall everything.

I am currently not able to attach to the project. The message says to check my account ID, but I can log in fine on the website.

It seems like I am either doing something wrong, or there is a problem with my account on the server.
14) Questions and Answers : Windows : Work unit ready to report (Message 1427)
Posted 21 Aug 2004 by old_user458
Post:
Apparently the model I was working on crashed and it comes up as ready to report. However, it is not sending the results due to this error:

2004-08-21 17:32:33 [climateprediction.net] Sending request to scheduler: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi
2004-08-21 17:32:36 [climateprediction.net] Scheduler RPC to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded

2004-08-21 17:32:36 [climateprediction.net] Can\'t parse scheduler reply
2004-08-21 17:32:36 [climateprediction.net] Deferring communication with project for 5 minutes and 13 seconds

I have been getting this error message for well over a week now and have no idea what to do to fix it.

I am attached to the project using the url climatprediction.net, which I believe is correct.

Any help is appreciated!

This is still ocurring. Is there anything I should do to help resolve it?

Also, my model stops computation a couple of times a day and the only way to force it to continue is exit BOINC and restart it. This almost always happens when some other program uses the CPU heavily for a period of time (playing a game will cause BOINC to stop processing - the hads* programs are no longer showing in the task manager).

> The file looks fine to me. The only other check I can think of is that
> cross_project_id and global_prefs_source_email_hash in sched_request.xml match
> the values in the reply.

They match, although the "global_prefs_source_email_hash" shows up as "email_hash" in sched_reply.xml. The values are identical.

> Those "-" characters look like the problem. The {message_ack/} line indicates
> that your request went through okay. Also I'm getting
> {host_venue}{/host_venue} instead of {host_venue/}, which might indicate that
> we're trickling to different servers.

Ok, well at least you found something. I just double checked the file (it opens in IE when double clicked - that might be a problem) and the "-" seem to denote that what comes below it are children of it... The section immediately below the first "-" is indented, and when I click the "-" it collapses.

This is what it looks like in Notepad:

{project_preferences}
{resource_share}100{/resource_share}
{/project_preferences}
{message_ack/}
{/scheduler_reply}

It doesn't have the "-" characters, but I am still getting the messages. Anything else I can do?
