1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Visual Fortran Runtime error (Message 50196)

Sorry, I spoke too soon. It was seemingly running ok because it was racking up CPU time which the others didn't but it still crashed with a computation error.

However, before I could uncheck it, 14 downloaded because there wasn't anything else available at the time.

It is strange but 13 of the new units had the error and one is running correctly. This means overall only one out of over 30.

I was thinking that maybe there might be new applications about by then. Leaving it checked would allow for that.

There is no need to hope you will get something different. I have just followed Iain's advice and unchecked HADCM3S (see 3 messages earlier than this one), so should never get one unless there is nothing else.

I had already received an ANZ unit and that is working fine. I have unchecked HADCM3S as you suggested.

Iain

That is exactly the message I have been getting - same line & position number, so it is indicating where the failure is, whatever it is at that point of the program.

I was having no problems on any of the other applications - just HADCM3S.

My cache either failed with a calculation error or were aborted by me. All of them registered a % done, some over 10%, and elapsed time but no CPU time. That resulted in an empty cache which was filled with the same application, so the process was repeated. Is there any way to restrict which applications are downloaded? It won't let me have any more until tomorrow.

Pete, if you have other applications available I would abort all HADCM3S units.

Cheers

I have the above named error window which returns almost as soon as I clear it. Is it a problem? Progress is now shown at over 5% in 1 hour 20 minutes (i7) but no CPU time has registered yet and of course no checkpoint.

Does anyone know of this problem? Is there any point in continuing to run the unit? Is there anything I can do? Should I abort?

Thanks

Nothing abnormal on your \"Results\" page. Any Messages of significance?
Have you trued Suspend/Exit/Restart? Or reboot? (Desperation measure.)

There have been other reports of trouble at Phase Change when 2/3 through. If all else fails, mercy killing and start anew. (I know, that isn\'t very satisfying.)

Thanks, Astro

I had tried suspend/resume to shock it. Looks like euthenasia next.

As long as it is a known problem and not just me!

Hi

Slab model hadsm3fub_f052_005916362_1 uploaded by zip file at 66.666% between 00:59:05 & 01:00:24 which was confirmed as finished. Since then neither the CPU time nor the time to completion have moved despite the status showing as running.

Has it died? Any way to give it the kiss of life?

I normally have one core dedicated to CPDN which I have switched over to other projects meanwhile.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks, Les & Mike.

At 22:42 I did do an Update, but the model had crashed by then. It had come up with a computation error message and a time error. The time to go had stuck at 3 seconds - so nearly there! However, it had been attempting to trickle up between 22:29 & 22:38 and then a new model started at 22:38. Could it be that BOINC started the new model because of a time error on the trickle up and then the crash occurred as a consequence of the 2 models overloading my PC?

BOINC/CPDN runs on my PC (Vista with dual-core 3800+).

I haven\'t been doing back-ups and the PC had been running for 6 days continuously.

15) Message boards : Number crunching : Shutting down Vista and BOINC with CPDN running. (Message 31654)

Ray

The simplest solution is for your wife not to run CPDN because it only happens to CPDN. I found that SETI, Rosetta & WCG all close down in time, for example.

Get one, or more, of your other projects running on her machine and increase the priority of CPDN on your machine(s) to compensate.

I also found that User Account Control was a pain, but I have now disabled it. With other projects, there shouldn\'t be any need for BOINC not to run when she uses it away from home

In Vista, Control Panel | Windows Update | Change Settings. If you set it to the download option, then you can choose when to install and then handle a restart manually.

Thanks, Guys

Spelling doesn\'t matter if your heart is in the right place!

That seems to have stopped the regular problem. However, I lost another unit overnight last night. I think I must have had an automatic update which re-booted my sytem. I have an idea that this can be prevented, but can\'t remember how to change the settings. Any suggestions, please?

Fortunately, the hadsm3 unit which had got past the 50% mark did not disappear, but the hadcm3 unit with only 1 or 2 % completed did disappear. This surprises me because the hadsm3 unit was permanently running (50% of dual-core machine allocated to ClimatePrediction) whereas the hadcm3 unit was suspended by user. Was it because the hadcm3 unit is much bigger, judging from the much longer processing time expected (over 1000 hours)?

Cheers

Hi

Can anyone suggest a way to by-pass User Account Control, please?

If I get a download which requires a re-start and I am not there, I lose hours of crunching time.

Can Microsoft not be persuaded that BOINC is a safe program?

I have 2 machines running ClimatePrediction & WCG.

1 is Dual core intel with XP. Other is Dual core AMD with Vista. The first one runs CPDN without problem and I have 2 units nearing completion. The second one frequently finishes early when I shutdown my machine, usually after at least 10% has been completed. WCG continues regardless.

Any ideas what is happening, please?
