Yes, you are there, but you appear as \'International\' because you didn\'t state your country. You\'ll see the correct ID number:

OIC - thanks. So much to learn, so little time!

Koen, are your computers also attached to other projects? There are a lot of members with the name Koen or koen at BoincStats. Type the name into the box at the top and you\'ll see how many.

http://boincstats.com/forum/forum_index.php

If several of the Koens are you, you\'ll need to change your email address in other project accounts. You need to use the same email address on every project. This coordinates the different accounts.

If your computers are only attached to CPDN, BOINC debt (LTD) will not be a problem and CPDN should always give you one model for each core of each computer. But only if in your BOINC preferences in your account you have given BOINC permission to use all the cores. For example, if you have a dual-core but you only give BOINC permission to use one core, you will only receive one model.

Goodness! I didn\'t realize there were so many! And it seems I am not even among them - I am UK-based, but not in Leicestershire...

However, none of my computers are attached to projects other than CPDN, so I guess that should not be one of my problems.

http://boincview.amanheis.de/ can be used to watch and control multiple hosts. It can replace the BOINC manager or be used in addition to the BOINC manager (default is, that it uses port 31416 then).

Cool, thanks! I\'ll have a look at that.

If you run several projects and CPDN had piled up a huge amount of negative Long Term Debits (LTD) in client_state.xml, this can make your computers not request work for quite a long time.

I reset those LTD now and then - but that requires editing of the client_state.xml file, there is no standard feature that allows resetting them (besides resetting the whole project).

Especially CPDN tends to collect negative LTD (caused by the long running models) - if you don\'t reset them, the only way to make your host ask for new work is to suspend all other projects for a minute.

BOINCview can show you how many LTD a project has collected over the time.

If you run only CPDN, a reason I could think of would be the IP changes in the CPDN network - BOINC caches IPs for a long time (or even forever?), but then you should have seen a message about connection problems. A BOINC restart fixes that IP cache problem - but one rarely restarts headless crunchers ;-)

p.s.: My personal opinion is, that the LTDs are a misconcept, as they can interfer with the short term debits, if one of them is negative for a project while the other value is positive for the same project

Thanks again. I don\'t think it was my computers not requesting work - the message log shows then sending a request, but I\'ll have a look with BOINCview.
I am not familiar with BOINCview, though - is it a separate application?

As for the IP addresses, one of my machines is static, and the ISP-assigned IP address changes very rarely; the other two are notebooks which travel around, but here too there has been no recent change in the pattern. Anyway, everything seems to be happening again, so I\'m happy!

Your host pages say, that you received work on two computers today and on a third one yesterday.

The limitation might be the daily quota, so if the results got lost, you\'ll probably have to wait until tomorrow until you can get another model assigned.

Thanks very much! - the messages here still keep on saying the same (no work from project), but after having detached and reattached the climateprediction.net project earlier today on two machines, the screen saver here now shows a percentage completion indicator which has gone up from 0.05% to 0.14%, so there seems to be some movement.

What can have been the reason for the complete inactivity on all the hosts for more than a month? (Or am I reading the statistics wrongly...?)

Looking back through the messages for several days (if not weeks), I keep seeing text such as:

29/09/2008 08:23:02|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work
29/09/2008 08:23:02|climateprediction.net|Requesting 30240 seconds of new work
29/09/2008 08:23:07|climateprediction.net|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 603]
29/09/2008 08:23:07|climateprediction.net|Message from server: No work sent
29/09/2008 08:23:07|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec
29/09/2008 08:23:07|climateprediction.net|Reason: no work from project

So it seems I am not getting any work because there is no work from the project. What does this mean?

The statistics suggest that no work seems to have been done since mid August. In fact, looking to the statistics of the five hosts for Koen, they all seem to have been inactive for quite some time (I don\'t have permanent access to the other machines, so I cannot verify their situation directly).

What is preventing this machine, and possibly the others, from fetching and executing work?

Thanks!

Koen

8) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC Client (Message 28505)

I installed BOINC a week ago and after some tweaking to get the settings recognized it worked fine as a screen saver. However, after rebooting the Boinc icon in the system tray says \"BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client...\".
I\'ve opened the BOINC Manager, selected Advanced -> Select Computer and entered \'climateprediction.net\' in the Hostname box (with my password in the corresponding box), but nothing happens - after about a minute an error box pops up \"BOINC is not able to connect to a BOINC client\".
Meanwhile the screen saver still operates as expected.
What is going wrong and how could I fix it? Thanks!
Koenfucius
