1) Questions and Answers : Windows : unable to download workunits (Message 12597)

I am having a similar problem. I have been running 2 CPDN Wu's, one finished and uploaded on saturday. It shows it as being uploaded sucessfuly. I have a 2nd WU still crunching, however CPDN isnt downloading a other WU to replace the one that finished and uploaded on Saturday. Anyone have a clue why this is? Im not worried because I still have 1 WU running, but I want to run 2 WUs like I have been doing since January.

Saenger,

Do you know of any real advantages of 4.25? Do you think I should go to 4.25, even though the progress bar seems lacking? Beyond this little hiccup, I am loving CPDN/BOINC and grid computing in general.Im also doing a projet through UD. A very exciting time indeed!

I know suddenly it kicked back into gear. Thank god.

I have reverted back to 4.19 though, I found 4.25 to be dreadfuly slow. Anyone else have a opinion on the 4.25 version. Now that I have 4.19 back on, the speed seems very reasonable. Or perhaps the speed is the same in both versions, it just takes longer to show as such on the progress tab?

Hi,
I keep getting this repeating message when I try to update my project:

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Server can't open database

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Project is down

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication with project for 14 minutes and 22 seconds

Any idea what I'm supposed to do, I intialy had a problem with BOINC 4.19 this morning, with it not wanting to update, so I upgraded to 4.25 hoping it would fix the problem.

Not that it matters, but the project is still running, and crunching like normal. I'm running to WU, both are in the 2nd phase. Id sure hate to lose all the work when I'm almost 60% done.

5) Questions and Answers : Windows : Schedulers (Message 10700)

Hello

I am having a problem with the BOINC scheduler.

I force a update and I keep getting the same message:

SCHEDULER_REPLY::Parse() bad first tag Context-type:tex......
Cant Parse scheduler reply
defering communication with project for 43 min.........

It worked fine till I added SETI to BOINC.

I have since detached SETI, yet am still recieving the same messgae.

Any help that could be provided, would be highly apprecieted.

We could look at environmental impact of this project. However I am willing to bet most of us would have our computers running almost around the clock regardless of this project. Most people are running this when there computer goes idle. Unless of course we all turn off our computers immediatly we stop doing our other work. Instead of your pc running and taking up power and doing nothing, i would think its benefical to put it good use. Everything has a impact, you have to choose your battles though.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : gigantic work units, is this normal? (Message 8341)

Right now in task manager it shows my two WU's at 17% a piece and system Idle process at 64%? Is this normal? Or does it just depend on how Ive set up my prefernces on Climateprediction.net? The only other item that shows taking any of my CPU is my internet, which is at like 1%. And of course task manager when open takes between 1-3%. When you say make it go away, how do you mean exactly?

Im not as computer literate as some of you guys, but I was looking at the Processes in the Window Task Manager, and I saw something called System Idle Process constantly taking up 65-70 on the CPU, what exactly is this, I know it may really be a dumb question.

I've never tried anything like this before, Im finding it interesting if not adicting, Im constantly checking my progress, I know its not a race ;). My computer is a Fujitsu P4 3g/hz / 1 gig of Ram. Its running 2 WU's, still under 5% on both of them. I wonder if I give my computer a pep talk if it will go faster. Would it go faster you think if I set in preferences on the Climatepridiction site to 1 processor instead of 2. Or doesnt it make a difference?

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if I was in a realistic ballpark, and it looks like I am. If I even do half of running 24/7 thats still a realistic time period. I'm finding being part of this project very exciting and interesting.

Thankyou, Andrew. Now I can take my time, and join a team when Im ready, just didnt know if it was mandatory. And yes the science is the most imporant, I find this endeavour all very interesting and exciting.

Hello,

I very recently got involved with CP.NET, and BOINC. I am up running; have a account, downloaded the model/project, and am up and computing.

Now do I have to join a team? How do I go about doing it? And how do I choose one, there are like thousands of teams?

Mr Hillbert
