Posted 26 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: Yes I\'m running the 71.86 driver on a GeForce2 GTS which is supported. I think the driver is working fine. There\'s no nvidia in /etc/init.d/. OpenGL is working, too (glxgears at ~1900 fps and 3D-Games). Thanks anyway for the comment. |

Posted 24 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: I used to have X Windows shutdown problems on Fedora 7 because the proprietary ATI graphics driver is crap. Upgrading did help, but if I switch from init 5 to init 3, it will not shutdown X. Runlevel 5 or 3 is OK by itself, just not switching between the two. If you have an unstable X system, other processes will have problems. Anyway, I hope you got it figured out. Any more problems, then try an upgrade/reinstall of OS or drivers. well, I have a very old graphics card and there\'s only one driver which works for me. And I have to install it manually because there\'s no repository for old legacy drivers. But why did it work before and now doesn\'t? I don\'t think there are problems when switching between the runlevels on my system. |

Posted 24 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: I just typed \"W\" in the Graph and it turned to the 2D-View. I have already turned off the screensaver. I only sometimes look at the graph manually to check if everything is ok (ice-world, weird behavior...) Hopefully the new model works fine (I have already said this a few times before :D ) |

Posted 23 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: But why everything works fine except of the shut-down-thing and BOINC-Manager (the boinc-client also works but I don\'t want to run only the command-line BOINC). I also have the feeling that it all started after I installed Google Desktop. I have to try quitting it before shutting down. I will try it right now, brb. OK, it shut down properly, at least it looked like. But the graphics driver got damaged again and I had to install it again. During the installation it tells me: ERROR: File \'usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so\' is not a symbolic link. it links to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.71.86.01 which is in the same folder and then later: Your driver installation has been altered since it was initially installed...will uninstall as best it can...see \'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log\' for details Maybe something is wrong with the installed driver but the installer doesn\'t uninstall the bad file Wow, I just tried to start BOINC-Manager and it works!!! Maybe the uninstaller worked better this time. I have just set everything up and it works. The Graphic is working again, too. But it shows the 3D-Globe although I have selected 2D in the preferences? And the globe doesn\'t seem to be OpenGL-Rendered (turns very slow, about 1 Frame every 3 secound or 1/3 fps when in fullscreen, 2 fps when small). |

Posted 22 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: I have a problem, again. BOINC didn\'t work properly on my SUSE-linux and didn\'t show the graphics. After a model-crash I decided to reinstall BOINC. Before the reinstall I had a problem with linux (and still have), it doesn\'t want to shut down and I have to switch off the computer by force. Then after 2 such \"shut-downs\" X Window got damaged and I had to install the Graphics-Driver again. After that BOINC-Manager didn\'t work any more: The program \'boincmgr\' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was \'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)\'. (Details: serial 557 error_code 11 request_code 146 minor_code 5) ... Now I still can\'t get BOINC-Manager to work. I have already deleted everything from the BOINC-folder and reinstalled it. BOINC-Manager still shows the same error. What can I do? |

(Message 32128)
Posted 10 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: @MikeMarsUK: Thanks for the links, I already know them except of the linux version. I have SUSE 10.3 I can even start memtest at startup: http://bp2.blogger.com/_VN8zHqq8Ns8/ReRkagjSZ5I/AAAAAAAAAD0/4I-5y-gesnc/s1600/103grubcr2.png But in Win Xp, which I had before, the Computer didn\'t produce so much errors. I don\'t think something is wrong with the computer. I think I did something wrong with the installation of BOINC. I don\'t know what I am going to do next... BTW: The graph of the new model after the crash also doesn\'t show. One more thing: BOINC is showing: hadsm3fub_028m_005919313_3 using hadsm3 version 504 Resuming CPDN! Resuming CPDN! Resuming CPDN! (Message 32123)
Posted 10 Jan 2008 by old_user442168 Post: Update: Good news: The hadsm-model works again ->http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7041767. Bad news: The other model an hadcm, which was running on linux just crashed ->http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7117962. Can someone tell me, why the stderr out message is so long? I already had the feeling that something is going wrong with the linux-BOINC-model because the graphic didn\'t show and the data looks weird (esp the ocean temp). Shall I restore the backup from 6 Jan, unfortunatelly that\'s the last backup I made. Or should I better reinstall BOINC and start a new model (and hope that everything works fine)? |

Then I restored the backup from the day before the crash (~2h computing time before crash happened). It´s running now. We will see what is going to happen to the model :D I will report later. |

Posted 16 Dec 2007 by old_user442168 Post: I have installed the bbc-backup.exe it works perfect. The reason why the 1600+ has 4 models in the list is because I had some troubles getting BOINC to run. It only has one model running now. I will reset the bad model and start a HADCM. Now I know that I have to look after my models. |
