1) Message boards : Number crunching : Mac running New Zealand suddenly finished (Message 51937) Posted 5 May 2015 by Billy Post: I am not sure if this is relevant, but I noticed something odd in the log when this happened. It looks like there were Milkyway projects running and completing at this time. The final 2 Milkyway tasks when they completed, other tasks did not start up. This looks very unusual. When the 3rd Milkyway task completed, it appears that the Climate tasks should have started, but went to complete instead. At 7:48:18, a task should have started, but there is nothing in the log. Maybe it is a Boinc problem? 2) Message boards : Number crunching : Mac running New Zealand suddenly finished (Message 51917) Posted 3 May 2015 by Billy Post: I had 4 New Zealand tasks that were partially completed and idle on my computer while other projects were running. At 7:50 this morning, 3 of the New Zealand tasks simultaneously reported that they were complete. Did the CPDN project send out a direction to cancel these tasks? They are now sitting on my computer with the description of "computing error". 3) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : Progress not accumulating on PowerMac OSX 10.4.11 Boinc 10.6.58 (Message 42905) Posted 15 Sep 2011 by Billy Post: I tried resetting the project. There was no change. Tasks make no progress and Activity Monitor shows tasks still running while on "suspend" and curiously there is 40% CPU activity on Process ID 0, kernel task. That can't be desirable.

Time is counting down and up but progress stays at zero. On task suspended, the task still shows up as running on Activity Manager. Only solution seems to be to abort and stop running CPDN tasks.

Then it started over at 0. It has many zip files that cannot upload because of the server problems. I have suspended this task. I received a new FAMOUS task which normally happens when a FAMOUS task completes. Should I abort or wait until the server problems are settled? I am not sure if this is related to BOINC Manager or CPDN.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit anomalies (Message 40644) Posted 9 Sep 2010 by Billy Post: Credits seem to have been returned to normal; hard to say if there were any small glitches. At the time the backup was in progress, I did have a small communications problem with Boinc Manager and CPDN. I had a report that a task that had been aborted was already reported at an earlier time and I have one task [famous] that is showing up on my list at CPDN, but has never been visible on my Boinc Manager on my computer. I only mention this because this "extra" task will likely sit on my list for months before it times out and I can't do anything about it at my end. As I said, I am getting a beautiful view of the earth, but no climate information. At first I thought that my graphics were working on the FAMOUS models.

I get a detailed revolving globe with night/day, but no clouds or anything about the climate. There are 2 boxes which look like they might contain data, but they are simply empty grey boxes.

It doesn't help Global Warming to have Mac computers using twice as much electricity to get the same results. And it doesn't help your project or the feelings of the Mac users.

I suggest that you remove it until it can be made more efficient. It is only adding to Climate Change at the moment.

Compared to a similar Windows machine, the Mac's are running them only 1/2 as fast. Has there been an error in compiling the application for the Mac? I have been advising people not to run 3P on their Mac's. It is inefficient and contributing to Climate Change!
