4) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : New HADCM3L model (Message 21559)
Posted 24 Mar 2006 by old_user3682
Post:
Hi guys!

Yes, unfortunately the HADCM3L model suffers from the same problem as the sulphur model: it does not work on Red Hat Linux distributions with GLIBC versions greater than 2.2.5 (exclusive).

My previous patch for the sulphur model was based on linking the model executables to a local copy of GLIBC 2.2.5, so that it \"thinks\" GLIBC 2.2.5 is installed on the machine.

I tried the same approach with HADCM3L but, unfortunately, it does not work. This is because HADCM3L, unlike sulphur, is compiled with GLIBC 2.3. Thus, it requires the functionality of the later versions of the libraries to work properly. Alas, until (and if) the developers look into this, Red Hat Linux machines will not be able to run CPDN. :(

Best regards,
Stefan.

Suse 9.2 has the same problem by the looks of it mine just seg faults out as well most anoying it\'s the most productive box as well ..

Posted 11 Oct 2004 by old_user3682
Post:
> It is set to save every 3 days of model time. 3 days at every half hour equals
> 3 time 48 equals 144 time steps. On a fairly slow machine at 10 per time slice
> that is only 24 minutes.
>
>Hummmmmm ok now i am miffed think i see where this is heading , I'll get my head round it yet thanks ..i was getting virtual and actual mixed i think ..

11) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : model save times (Message 5153)
Posted 9 Oct 2004 by old_user3682
Post:
Hi .

one of my machines has taken to canning itself now and then just recently , This means that every time it dies the model restarts but i have lost about 3 days work .

My question is why was the save interval set to this longer a time period ? , would it not save a lot of computing time/power if the save interval was 1 day or even 12 hours that way when a system does have a glitch you dont loose quite so much time ..

> that's odd, that should only happen if the model isn't running? Although I

I also am noticing problems as well i have just brought up a new machine and it complains about "nice: ./hadsm3viz_4.03*: no such file or directory .

The directory of course is there and an hadsm3viz_4.04_i686-pc-linux-gnu exists .
it seems viz i looking for an previousversion ..

> Pete,
>
> You don't give many clues as to what you are doing or what is happening!
>
> Also, please keep to one thread for your problem.
>
> Where are you trying to download from?
> What is your system?
> Are you on dialup?
>
> Perhaps try downloading from one of the mirrors? Or are you only having
> problems for the client models?
>
> Are you running from a shell that is then timing out? Are you logging off and
> hence killing your process??...
>
>
> Give us a few clues. Others have this working ok.
