1) Message boards : Number crunching : 2 successful runs vanished from my result table (Message 14747)

&gt; Have you read <a> href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=3111"&gt; this</a>
&gt; thread about Carl's credit fixing?

Well I have read that thread and it just happens, that from an account of more than 20,000 points crunched thru several endless working hours, now my credit count has gone down to a few points above the 10,000 mark (10,585.96 to be exact).

Truly, in this particular case, if this is the way things are going to be counted and left as such, I know that it is up to me to continue or just drop the crunching in this project. I think that I will probably stay with the other projects. This is not serious!!!

I have done everything that has been recommended, to see if the program or the project server, recognizes that I have a new unit which is totally different from what it shows in my account page for the trickles sent in.

I have 52 hours of work or roughly a 7.66% advance on a unit which is not shown on my trickles report page. I did correct what was suggested in my preferences, but in spite of everything it just does not seem to make any difference at all.

I will let it continue as is now for the rest of this week, if by the end of it there are no results shown I will separate from the project. There is no need to have time taken from other projects which are working fine, to be in one that does not modify results and just keeps taking time from the others.

It is a pity but that's it.

&gt; However, have you considered setting the preference 'Keep in memory while
&gt; suspended' to yes. With no you could have to recalculate up to 143 timesteps
&gt; every time CP is suspended.

If I just knew where to see that I could probably do it, but I do not know where to look for it. Anyway I will just let things go its way and see what happens.
Thanks.

&gt; Last trickle came through 15. Jun 2005 09:14:31 UTC.
&gt; I'm also missing about 14 Trickles.
&gt;
&gt;

In my case when switching to CC 4.45 it removed (truly the host did it!!) the old unit that was in analysis and requested a new one, which was received and has been working up to a 6.51% but no credits have been granted.

18/06/2005 8:58:25|climateprediction.net|Pausing result 40zl_100209789_1 (removed from memory)
The last unit reported in my results page, continues to show the old unit, but no new points.

Will this last long??

&gt;
&gt; You have errors in so many models and trying to get more that the daily quota
&gt; has gone down to 1. Until you start returning models that have not died, this
&gt; will not change. You will get one model each day, if that model dies, you will
&gt; not get another until you start returning successful results.
&gt;
&gt; When that happens, the quota should rise to 4 over time ...
&gt;
&gt;

Keep my fingers crossed!

&gt; 4.43 is known to be a bit over enthusiastic in requesting work, but that's
&gt; definitely fixed in 4.44
&gt;

Well I downloaded the 4.44 and when I request a unit to be received, it just says:
08/06/2005 11:26:43|climateprediction.net|Requesting 86400.00 seconds of work
08/06/2005 11:26:43|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi
08/06/2005 11:26:44|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded

08/06/2005 11:26:44|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication with project for 14 hours, 50 minutes, and 3 seconds
So there is got to be something else.

In the meantime, I only received from Einstein and nobody else.!!!!!

Due to the new system of this host, plenty of strange things started happening. First I got a new unit, when the ongoing one was still working at a 56% advance. Then all of a sudden both showed a finished message and error computing.
Then on subsecuent days have got the following messages:
08/06/2005 6:29:24|climateprediction.net|Requesting 86400.00 seconds of work
08/06/2005 6:29:24|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi

08/06/2005 6:29:25|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication with project for 19 hours, 53 minutes, and 47 seconds

Actually I do not have any units from climate at all.

Similar things are happening with SETI, and Protein.
So far only Einstein is behaving ok.
Any suggestions?
equipment is Intel pentium 4 at 2.67GHz with WXP sp2
and had been using all projects without a problem.

&gt; Hola catalans i valencians i tothom!
&gt;
&gt; I have 6 or 7 classic models, including some of the bigger thermohaline ones,
&gt; zipped on the HD, and according to the disk defragmenter, the % of free space
&gt; hasn't changed much during more than a year of running cpdn. If I run out of
&gt; space, I will start using CDs as well. It would actually be safer to to store
&gt; the files in both ways.
&gt;
&gt; Astro was asked to upload a model a few months back. After you've done all the
&gt; work, it would be depressing if the researchers needed to study one of your
&gt; models in more detail and you couldn't produce it.
&gt;

Quina sort que tens!
We do not have neither the amount of CPU's nor the HD enough free space as to keep old already crunched units. If CPDN wants to re-study any unit, they should be smart enough to be able to reproduce or extract it from their files not to be using us as a warehousing unit.
As far as I am concerned I will keep a couple, the last one completed and the ongoing one, as for the rest they will be taken out and deleted from the file.

I do the computing, very gladly - and have participation in all projects, with one single CPU, but on top of that to have to store units... nope!!

To tell you the truth, it should be the people at CPDN the ones to design the proper ways of having these files eliminated from our files, just like all the other projects do.

I agree that they increased from the seventy something to the ninety something figure per trickles, but the particularity that I have noticed now is that each time that a change of step begins, then there is a total higher bonus in credits. It happened in my unit when finishing fase 1/3 and then again at the end of fase 2/3, will it happen again when it finishes 3/3??

As far as I am concerned I have noticed that the credit situation is being granted every 10802 trickles or timesteps or however you call them.

Out of the 259248 timesteps in each of the 3 parts of one unit; everytime the total adds to a number + 10802, credit is granted.

I work with a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz Pentium.
