1) Message boards : Number crunching : Cancel high priority run now or later? (Message 42146)

My pc is working on an Ocean 6.07 model with high priority. The calculation must be done before Aug 4th 2011. My pc will not running all the time, so I can't finish on time.
What is the best thing to do. Cancel now or cancel in August?
Leendert.

Thanks Iain,
There is 113 GB free on the disk. Seems to be enough to me.
Vista advices 3000 MB virtual memory; it was 2000 MB in auto mode. I changed to manual and enlarged it to 3000 MB and wait for new results tomorow as the server message said: reached daily quota.

Maybe the problem has to do with the other \'activities\' on my PC which use quite some memory: Realtime stock market analysing programs, Dreamweaver and Photoshop. However these programs and boinc run for years together on my pc.

Leendert.

I have problems with icewolds in HADAM3 5.03 models.
I aborted 3 models after a few hours of running.
The fourth stopped by a calculation error.
The task ID of the last model is: 7928832
The models were not constant blue. s/TS varied between 17 and 1100.
The processor is Intel duo core 2.4 GHz; no overclocking.
On the other core a HadSM3 model runs smoothly at 1,44 s/TS; completion is 29% there.

Is the problem caused by my computer or are the models the cause?

I do not allow new climateprediction models for the time being.

Advise appreciated,

Leendert from The Netherlands.
5) Message boards : Number crunching : How hot may an Intel Core duo E6600 become? (Message 29366)

I wonder if the cooling of the processors in my new pc is sufficient. At the moment that temperature varies between 50 and 54 degrees C. The room temperature has not been above 25 degr. C. yet.
Hot summer days of 30 degr. C and higher seem to be far away in Holland at the moment. Nevertheless I wonder what will happen to the temparature of the processors if it gets hotter.

Would someone share his experience and kwow how on this matter? What temperatures do you have on Intel duo core\'s?

Thx!

CPDN runs smoothly again! Thanks to you!
I followed the advise of Pooh Bear and it worked ok. (I would never dare to copy the old dir over the new one)
In the meantime the first two trickes have been uploaded; made my first backup and off we go with a speed of 1.62 Tr/sec.....

It is getting worse, although the Boinc programs have now permission through the firewall.

This morning twice a CPDN project was started and stopped because of an unrecoverable error for result hadcm3inct_cmon_1920_160_35869603_2 (Can\'t link input file.

Other remarkable messages were:
- File hadcm3trans_5.40_windows_intelx86.exe exists already, skipping download
...
- Output file hadcm3inct_cmon_1920_160_35869603_2_1.zip for task hadcm3inct_cmon_1920_160_35869603_2 absent
...
- Message from server: Completed result hadcm3inct_cmon_1920_160_35869603_2 refused: result already reported as error
....
- Message from server: No work sent
- Messsage from server: (reached daily quota of 2 results)
- Deferring communication for 15 hr 59 min 7 sec
....
- Couldn\'t delete file projects/climateprediction.net/ SULPC_OXIDANTS_19_A2_1990.mod.gz
- Couldn\'t delete file projects/climateprediction.net/ spec3a_lw_3_asol2c_hadcm3.gz

I do not allow new CPDN projects now. World Community Grid projects run without any problem.
My conclusion is that I have to reinstall Boinc in a new directory c:\\boinc.
Other suggestions appreciating,

- BOINC is installed in C:\\program files\\boinc
- persmissions are: full control for the boinc dir, not for the boinc-sub dirs
- I run as user with administrator permission
- No, BOINC is not allowed through the firewall
- The recover was necessary because of a crash propably caused by running a video programm.
Further: I used Total Commander as file transfer manager for replacing the BOINC dir.

Since I upgraded to Vista I have problems with the recovery of a backup.
After replacing the old BOINC directory, Boincmanager does not show the projects anymore and Boinc could not communicate with the CPDN server.
I reinstalled Boincmanager, however this resulted in abandoning running projects. I tested this a few times to be sure; so I started and quit e few projects. (sorry for that!)
Please, advise.
Leendert.

Thanks for the info.
The pc is not overclocked. This duo core 6600 machine runs continously heavy Elliott Wave stockmarket calculations. The combination with Boinc might cause floating point calculation errors; very unlikely of course, but I just want to mention it.
I am curious if these errors will happen again. (you probably too) Because of that I\'ll recover the backup from Febr 17th with an older version of the Boinc manager. So, it will take 18 days without credits on one core. No problem with that; I don\'t participate for credits!

At 57% of the work completed a unrecoverable error was reported and the progress jumped to 100%.
Every week I make a complete backup of the BOINC dir. Is it worth while to recover the backup? In the meantime I started a new project from climateprediction.net?

Thanks for advices?
