In the meantime the downloads went through, the server or the connection is just sluggish.

EU models download doesn't do much either, HTTP connect error - could this be an IP change again?

Even experienced and reliable crunchers can have a catastrophic model crash occasionally!

On current machines those crashes lost a lot of their nastyness.

Somehow I considered the earlier models on P3 Tualatin and Athlon XP Thoroughbred to be way more valuable ;-)

The list of tasks is currently not updated on the CPDN web site so we might not see work that the host has downloaded here.

There are a few settings that can stop the BOINC activities :

- keyboad/mouse activities (computer "in use")
- CPU load limit (default setting very low, just 25%)
- RAM and cache : don't use more than ...

Isn't that just a result of the missing update scripts that are currently disabled?

The result status does not show either, I do have a successful one that I have reported (status is correct on the result page) but in all of the lists it still shows as "in progress" - plus a fresh one on the same host that doesn't show at all (yet).

I don't think that there is a reason to be worried, just keep crunching :-)

The venue thing is easy to explain :

When the "host" part of the sched_reply.xml (especially "host_venue") is empty or missing, the core client sets the host venue to "default".

When the next contact contains a properly formed host section, it depends on the setting on your account :

If the host venue for this host is "default" anyway, there is no change and you will not receive a "new venue" message

If the host venue for this host is supposed to be a specific one, the core client changes his venue and you will receive the "new venue" message

edit : I forgot to mention ... this behaviour is a bug in BOINC of course, the missing XML tag should not trigger a change, the core client should just keep the old venue.

Re this message from Ananas: restarting the client doesn't help. I'm still getting "HTTP internal server error" on trickle-ups.

There are 2 errors that are not directly related.

As you already receive "real" server messages and not just "Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server", your BOINC client already knows the correct IP. Those detailed errors are server side problems, restarting the client does not help.

But BOINC clients cache the IP forever (at least older ones do) and will continue giving you the "connect" error message even if the server is already up and running, just with a fresh IP.

I have 2 models running on 2 hosts, they both have been collecting trickles and were unable to upload them : "Couldn't connect ..."

I restarted only one and that one did upload the trickles, while the other one still sits there with the "connect" error.

The BOINC server IP seems to have changed, if you still experience problems connecting to the scheduler, you might need to restart your BOINC client.

Euren BOINC-Client einmal durchstarten.

edit :

This fixes only the "Couldn't connect to server" error, server side errors cannot be fixed that easily.

BOINCstats currently reports a project total RAC of -41,519,397 - so we're somehow "un-crunching" :

I'm not sure if our computers are injecting electricity into the wall plugs though - so it might not be the solution for all energy problems ;-)

Mine are back (not visible on BOINCstats yet)

The funny part is : it isn't visible here yet either, just the sched_reply seems to know about it.

edit : Sorry, nothing in sched_reply either, it used an old value because "Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance" :-/

This is a "Theta" issue too, the filetransfer errors are just results of that Theta thing.

We can view our CPDN account details in some other languages instead of English.

There is now a link to the language selection page in the blue menu.

This is the selection. Some translations are more complete than others.

When CPDN upgraded its version of Boinc at the beginning of June there was a serious error in the German translation of the second item in the ClimatePrediction preferences of our accounts. It said GPU. Now it correctly says Use CPU. If you edited this second preference and answered No, your computer(s) cannot download new work for CPDN. Some German-speaking members may need to edit this answer which must say Yes.

The error in the translation happened because of an accident with the file.

It seems that they want to make germans suspend their GPU work, with all those options to stop it ;-)

I think the idea to use the Einstein files (if possible) as long as the Berkeley ones are not in such a good shape isn't a bad one, people say that the Hannover area doesn't have too much of a dialect (even though they do have "regional specialities" too of course)

59) Questions and Answers : Wish list : BIS - CREDIT (Message 39431)

Post:

Permissions look OK, maybe we should try to figure out if it starts from a certain BOINC version and does not happen with anything below.

(My CC 5.2.18 has not done anything weird on any CPDN box so far)
