41) Message boards : Number crunching : Announcement: Database residual problem - misallocated WUs (Message 13158)

&gt; Can you point out any examples of this behaviour? I don't see this on <a> href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=859271"&gt;result
&gt; id 859271</a>, which has generated 6 trickles since starting on Friday evening
&gt; and has 567.11 credits.

Hi,

currently this are the following results...
<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=872328">Result 872328</a>: 28 Trickles and 2551.97 of ~2646,56 credits

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=780535">Result 780535</a>: 34 Trickles and 3119.08 of ~3213,68 credits

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=698345">Result 698345</a>: 60 Trickles and 5576.53 of ~5671,20 credits

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=677468">Result 677468</a>: 72 Trickles and 6710.74 of ~6805.26 credits

and some other results...

normally credits are corrected if an additional trickle gets in.

Ciao

Additionally to the misalocated wu problem I observed the last few days that credits are not calculated correctly. This new problem started with the rebuild of server software. So for all hosts all trickles that are send to cpdn are shown but for some hosts the granted credit doesn't match the number of trickles times ~94.52 According to this also the total credit isn't correct.

Yes sheduler is up now. Some hosts already trickled.

&gt; &gt; host 5957 trickling on it but now it is host 103138. Very strange it is
&gt; and
&gt; &gt; showing that things go more and more wrong.

&gt; &gt;
&gt; IMO: Host 103138 is the 'owner' of this result, and somehow the trickling
&gt; changed back.

The "owner" as shown on the <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=857093">result page</a> is my host 86867. But I'm not working on it.

Yes... <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=857093">there is a workunit</a> in my resultlist that someone else is computing for but the credit is added to my account.

Things realy go weird. Look at this completed run:

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=677468">Reult 677468</a>

Its completed... all trickles are received but credit is still wrong.

Or look at this result:

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=768926">Reult 768926</a>

Its still running and has trickled 28 times. So it should have got 28*94.52=2646,49 credits... but result page is showing always 2457.46 indicating that two trickles weren't credited.

&gt; Not weird. I'm also assuming that this tool becomes internation - which may
&gt; result in some traffic. You may then consider of releasing source code so that
&gt; people can put script on their forum, with their translation. For sure, credit
&gt; must remains as is.

This would be the best for admins but this tears away the influence of original author 'cause everyone can make changes as he thinks. It's not easy to put responsibility of your one loved child away and having nearly nothing to do with further development.

&gt; Not so wierd ;) But I know there might be some trouble with that - not so much
&gt; specifying it in the url, but with special letters. In Danish there's the
&gt; problem with the translation from Unreachable -&gt; Utilgængelig - the letter
&gt; "æ" becomes some other char. But I would love for it to be "multilinguable"
&gt; :)

It would be possible to add multilanguage support for at least common languages by adding a datafile containig datasets with specific local expressions and adding a localisation string (en,ge,fr,dk,gr etc.) to url which specifies the requested language. Then theres no problem with special characters.

&gt; Well, I chose this way first as it was the easier one to implement quickly ;)
&gt; I'm still new to PHP, so there are things I need to learn. I was actually
&gt; thinking of making it possible to choose rgb colors in dec first, but I want
&gt; to see if there's a smart way to do that. When I got that, I'll see if I can
&gt; make some dec2hex conversion as well (there are propably code out there I can
&gt; grab ;))

It's some kind of this:
<pre>
function hex2rgb($hex) {
$color = str_replace('#','',$hex);
$rgb = array('r' =&gt; hexdec(substr($color,0,2)),
'g' =&gt; hexdec(substr($color,2,2)),
'b' =&gt; hexdec(substr($color,4,2)));
return $rgb;
}
</pre>

And what shows boinc.exe? It's mainly this exe which is using so much cpu cycles.

It's a Intel Pentium I with 200Mhz. But I switched back to BOINC 4.19. It's using no significant cpu time as BOINC 4.25 does.

Mystery resolved.

Hi @all!

The mystery of increasing sec/TS has resolved. The tips of thermal throttling and of insufficiently cooling where both helpfull. I opened the case of my noteboook and looked at the cpu cooler. From the outside of the case it looked normal and not contaminated with to much dust. But looking at the cooler from inside the case revealed the problem. The transition from the cooler channel to the heatsink was clogged with dust. So the air couldn't reach the heatsink and cpu was getting to hot. This caused the thermal throttling feature to intervene.

The resulting glaringly difference between measuered benchmark results before and after is amazing.

Hi,

I've updated to Boinc v4.25 on one machine running Einstein. System requirements are to high to use it for Cpdn. But on this pc I saw boinc.exe using about 10% of CPU. Boinc v4.19 wasn't using so much processing power. Has anyone else observed a significant CPU load of boinc.exe? I think this goes back to the RPC calls Boinc manager is doing every second. But if Boinc manager is closed down and boinc.exe is running alone with einstein_xxx.exe the boinc.exe CPU load remains about the 10 perc.

Any suggestions?

Hi Honza,

thanks for this link. I didn't know about this extra registers and their capabilities to boost performance. Unfortunatly we'll have to wait till we can really experience this boost.

Tell me if I'm wrong. But 64bit windows only brings an advantage if you use more than 4GB of memory cause of 32bit can't address to memory up the 4BG frontier. So you may only see performance gains if you're running appilcations with huge memory needs so that the system has to permanently use paging files.

No, it doesn't looks like.

&gt; Model rewinds?
Some trickles ago the notebook crashed. After this I suspected cpdn rewinded to beginning of the actual trickle. But I'm now not sure.
