1) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Problems running BOINC on a shared partition (and upgrading) (Message 35059)

I was running as root on Arch, so I wouldn\'t think it\'d be a permissions issue (to experiment I also tried installing it on Arch\'s partition, but it gave the same errors). It turns out that Arch Linux does support BOINC, but I didn\'t notice the first time I looked (it wasn\'t immediately obvious on Google).

Thanks for the advice, but now my problem seems to be less about BOINC itself and more about using the package manager (Pacman), so I think it might be better if I asked on the Arch forums. BOINC is available in Arch\'s community repository, but it\'s been put together in an unusual way, and the instructions for getting Pacman to resolve the dependencies don\'t seem to work properly for it.

I have BOINC installed on my /home partition, and so far I\'ve been running
it with no problems on openSUSE 10.3. However, I can\'t seem to get
/home/BOINC/run_client to work while using Arch Linux (it\'s a fairly basic
system without a GUI). When I try to, either
by typing ./run_client or its full location, it returns these
messages:

line 1: /home/BOINC/boinc: No such file or directory
line 1: /home/BOINC/boinc: Success

I\'m running version 5.8.16 on an x86_64 machine. Is it possible that I\'m
missing some dependencies on Arch Linux?

This isn\'t so much of a concern, but I also tried to upgrade to a later version (6.2.15_x86_64), and when I tried to run it, the top line returned \"Cannot execute binary file\" with both run_client and run_manager. I\'ve since downgraded to 5.8.16 and got it to work on SUSE again... but what could I do if I wanted to upgrade?
