I\'ve adjusted the shared memory parameters and still crashed two volc models. However, it\'s not just my Mac. One model has also crashed one both of Windows machines that have attempted it, but with different error codes.

(Message 35356) Posted 24 Oct 2008 by old_user216062 Post: While we try to find out what the error messages mean, I think you should start backing up the complete contents of your BOINC Data folder regularly. So you\'d be able to restore a crashed model and continue it from the restore point. There\'s a selection of backup methods in the README collection linked in my sig. I use Time Machine to automatically back up my entire computer to an external hard drive. I\'m supposed to be able to restore any file. Will that work in this case? If so, should I restore the entire BOINC folder or just the climateprediction folder inside the BOINC folder? Thanks.

(Message 35346) Posted 23 Oct 2008 by old_user216062 Post: My models are all crashing with \"code 22\" and \"shmget: No such file or directory.\" There\'s usually a \"No heartbeat from core client for x seconds\" thrown in for good measure. I\'ve increased shared memory using the Terminal code given in the \"Fixing Error Code 6\" thread, but am at a loss to solve the \"shmget: No such file or directory\" code. As for the \"No heartbeat\" code: my crashes seem to occur only when I restart or shut down my computer and will take down the entire system--I get the Apple version of the screen of death. However, I usually close out all applications prior to restarting, so it seems odd that the climate models would still be running after I\'ve closed BOINC. I\'ve just downgraded back to 5.10.45, so I\'ll also see if that does anything to solve the problem. It seemed that the crashes started after I upgraded to BOINC 6.2.x. As for the one that crashed on 5.10.45: I jumped the gun on upgrading to 6.2.x. That model crashed when I upgraded before it finished.

My HADCM model crashed last yesterday, just like all the others. I have not had a model come close to completing since I upgraded to BOINC 6.x.x. Time to downgrade and see if that solves anything.

I\'m 150 hours into a HADCM model and have had no problems. Everything appears to be stable again. No problems when shutting down or restarting the computer.

(Message 34983) Posted 14 Sep 2008 by old_user216062 Post: This may be unrelated to my previous post, but I\'ve noticed a new wrinkle in model instability. If I run a CPDN model, my OS becomes unstable--keeps crashing when I attempt to log out, restart, or shut down (gray screen of death, need to restart by holding down the power button, etc.). After the manual restart, my CPDN model will read as a finished due to computation error. Since I stopped running climate models on 29 Aug, I have not experienced any OS crashes. I\'d like to continue running models but am not thrilled with the crashes. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I\'m missing trickles between 17 June and 21 June for task 7491271. While my messages tab shows 12 trickles between 17 June and 21 June, none show up in my results page. There is also a jump in the ave sec/TS from 1.5881 for the last trickle on 17 June to 3.1740 for the first trickle on 21 June. However, my messages tab show a consistent 3 hours of wall clock time between trickles. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is the new version of BOINC to blame? If so, I\'ll revert back to 5.10.45.

My messages tab shows 2 trickles on 26 Feb., a trickle and file upload on 27 Feb., and another trickle on 28 Feb. In each case, I got the \"Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks\" message.\" [edit] The trickles are missing from the results page and the credits have not changed since 25 Feb. Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks.
13) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : \"Communications Deffered\" is all I see (Message 30507) Posted 14 Sep 2007 by old_user216062 Post: Unfortunately, you have a PPC Macintosh running on either G4 or G5 chips (given the benchmarks, I\'d put my money on the probability you have G5 chips). AstroWX is correct in that you won\'t be able to run CPDN unless you have an Intel Mac. The classic version did support PPC Macs, but the current CPDN version does not. I see you are already running Einstein and Seti. Rosetta would be another option for you as they also support PPC Macs.

Thanks, Carl. Just so we can see that the data we are sending is actually received. I had my doubts after I sent my fourth trickle without any acknowledgment from the project.

Unfortunately, I\'m unable to do anything with it. Firefox can\'t connect to the server and BOINC first says that the web site is not found and then that it can\'t connect to the Internet--asks me to connect first, then try again. Strange, since no other web site is giving me problems and BOINC has no problems finding my ISP connection with other projects. Any tips/tricks to getting attached?
