Again sec/TS is abnormal rising...
(Message 10840)
Posted 14 Mar 2005 by old_user2147 Post: microtoxic - I was gonna' edit my earlier post, but decided to just post another. When running DC projects on a P4, you can easily spot TM1 throttling by settting up your tskmgr to show both cpu usage & kernal usage, and knowing what to look for. If you're interested, post here, & I'll respond w/the details. "ThrottleWatch" should be all you need, but I don't use it since I'm pretty good at spotting thermal throttling on the tskmgr. Strat |

Posted 14 Mar 2005 by old_user2147 Post: FWIW - I see you're running a Northie, which is a destop P4. AFAIK, CPU-Z will NOT detect TM1 thermal throttling in a desktop P4. I know it doesn't in my desktop P4's. <a href="http://www.panopsys.com/throttlewatch.php">Panopsys' "ThrottleWatch"</a> is what you want, when checking for P4 desktop TM1 throttling. HTH GL Strat |

Now upon my return, I'm having the exact same problem: "No Work From Project" followed by the ubiquitous "Deferring communication..."! Darn it! Strat |

Boinc V4.25 Stable Windows Version Released
(Message 10635)
Posted 10 Mar 2005 by old_user2147 Post: <i>Les Bayliss Posted on 9 Mar 2005 21:13:29 UTC:</i> > See post from <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2141">Browny_NL</a> +++ <i>Note added by Stratcat:</i> The link supplied above describes a sucessful 4.19 ---> 4.25 uninstall/upgrade while transparently overlaying 4.19 model(s) in mid-run state. +++ <i>Begin reply by Stratcat</i> Well, after reading this thread I feel a little better concerning the upgrade. Up 'till now I wasn't sure if a mid-run model folder needed to be Copied/Saved/Replaced. Apparently it doesn't require replacement, if all goes as expected. This was somewhat of an issue for me, since I've got 6 Hyperthreaded P4's running a total of 12 models. This means I never have a machine that's not somewhere in mid-run, due to 2 concurrent runs per cpu. Now I feel somewhat relieved that there shouldn't be any additional probs involved by having to manually replace models in mid-run status. Nice find. Thx, Les. Strat |

And sorry, Peter, but unfortunately I can't answer your questions. I tend to wait several weeks, or more, before an upgrade, 'cuz I'm too chicken to muck up my little farm, until I see a new build has some compelling reason to upgrade, and has proven itself robust. Posted 28 Feb 2005 by old_user2147 Post: Just to add - I seem to recall Linux, until just recently, having issues both writing & reading reliably to shared NTFS files. IIRC, Linux could either read or write to NTFS, but not both, reliably. So Linux & Windoze OS shared files were recommended to be formatted as DOS. I think this has been finally addressed in one or two 'cutting edge' distros, either just released, or soon to be RC's. Strat |

CPU Performance down under 4.19 for Windows?
(Message 9869)
Posted 24 Feb 2005 by old_user2147 Post: FWIW - I believe I saw a small difference in slightly longer S/TS occuring around a month, or so, ago, several weeks before I upgraded 4.13 --->4.19. It was a very small difference, and fell w/i the oft quoted +/- 5% margin of difference. I had 12 models running at the time, & it seemed all the new ones were running ~5%, or so, slower, than the preceeding model, on any specific machine. I thought about posting this, but it didn't really seem important, or easy quantifiable, either. It was just was something I casually "thought" I noticed, but didn't have "hard" numbers. I didn't think of it again, 'till I saw this thread. I'm pretty sure it started before my 4.19 upgrade. I wish I kept more exact records, or could be more specific. I just recall thinking "Hmmm...I've run into a series of slightly slower models". Like I said, FWIW. My opinion is free - You get exactly what you've paid for! ;-) Strat |

'Course, I'm speaking of the "Venus" versions of the bed-warmer, which is my preference. Women usually seem to prefer the "Mars" versions, and ironically, also cliam to often have a misundrstanding of how thier bed-warmer works. Though, I believe it's possible they may understand more than they let on. Strat |
