I'm a horrible communicator, so bare w/me. :)

Look, don't you guys think that it would be a good idea to better notify people of any problems or down time, if we are so important to this project, via email or something, rather than us having to find out on our own? How about a main message board on the home page that gives an alert of the system being down?

I spent last weekend going over my hardware, trying to figure out why my numbers were suddenly running so low. With nothing changed on my end, other than having upgraded to BOINC 4.17, I asked why the problems here.

I'm not directly benefiting from this project, except maybe for the fact that I am a part of this planet earth. As I said earlier, I do like to see my system's accomplishing something w/the numbers, my hardware slowly moving up in the ranks, what's wrong w/that? Can't I, and others, get a little something back out of this as a reward on our part?

What's the issue w/your staff problems, money, finding skilled people, summer recess?

Look, maybe my causing waves, or is it stirs the pot, if that is a proper term, isn't such a bad thing, in order to get you people to really talk about the issue(s)?

I read them. Problem is, everything appears to be an utter mess in my account, w/all that computer time wasted.

I don't belong to any teams, not to say that I don't like to see my systems scoring, but I also do like to see that I am contributing.

You know, it shouldn't be me that people like you get mad at, but rather at CP's staff. This isn't the first time that things have gotten messed up by them.

This is stupid, I'm pulling all my computers from this project. I'm only wasting valuable computer time here, which other projects would love to have. I'm sure CP couldn't care less.

I've been on this project since CP went BOINC, and before that, w/the old CP.

It's an utter mess, not just recent data, but past data too, like in months. No sense wasting any more of my computers time here until they fix it, that is if they can even fix it. Even then, can I ever trust it?

I'll check back to see if any progress has been done.

Bye.

This is not the first time. They seem to be having a lot of problems lately.

In my case, I seem to be sending my trickles to someone else, if I understand the problem right. I also can't download any new WU's.

I'm suspending everything under 50% completed. I've tried to get another WU, but CP seems to be down, again.

I've been running three computers, which had been giving me a daily average of over 850 credits per day.
In the last, approximately two weeks, I've been suddenly running in the 284 daily credit range. Same hardware and OS's, w/Boinc Client version 4.19. I've been seeing my world, country, and hardware ranks drop.

What's going on? I'm debating to drop off this project, since I seem to be wasting my hardware time. I've been in the process of adding another dedicated system, a dual Xeon, to the project, but that's on hold until I can find out why I'm getting such low credits w/the three systems I have on line now. There are other DC projects I can switch to, which I hope are better managed.
8) Questions and Answers : Windows : Tired of getting new computer ID\'s. (Message 9606)

When I upgraded to 4.19, my computer (ID 67,582) was given another computer ID (111,861). Is there any way of getting it back to my old one? I've tried merging, but that doesn't work.

I was one of the first on BOINC CP, and so originally had a low computer ID, but w/new BOINC upgrades, etc., I keep getting new ID's.

WHEN IS THIS BUG GOING TO BE FIXED?

Also is there any way to hide unactive machines?

Thx

Can CP be run off of a USB flash drive? Say a 512 meg for example.

Reasoning, allows processing off of an available computer w/o actually loading it on that computer.

I just looked at my results today and found that I again lost credit. The same thing happened a few months ago where I suddenly lost over half my credit. Fortuniately, I got it returned.

I had a total credit of 67,363.00 and now found today that I have 57,523.35.

My world rank also went from 183 to 199.

Also, I wish the Teams would be totally removed from the Top Participants and into strickly a Team catagory. Of course they are going to rank high vs. individuals such as myself.

Not only did my calculated results suddenly disappear from my client on my computer, but as it is redoing the calculations from square one, nothing is being trickled up.

How can I get BOINC to start trickling up the data again?

15) Message boards : Number crunching : Best Number Crunching OS and settings? (Message 4177)

Post:
I\'m sure this has been discussed someplace, but what is the very best operating system to use w/BOINC, in order to get the very best number crunching performance out of the cpu\'s? Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro, Server 2003; Linux, etc.

If it happens to be Windows, what is the best number crunching only settings?

With my Windows XP Pro system, I\'ve enabled HyperThreading in the bios for my 2.4C GHz P4. I\'ve disabled all ports such as serial, parallel, and USB. Disable the built in sound. I\'ve got 1 gig of DDR, so I disabled the pagefile.sys. I defrag my HD at least once a week. I\'ve Optimized Performance for Background Services. I\'ve set my video for performance. Is there anything else I can do for any added performance?

I\'ve also a Dual Athlon MP2800+ system running w/Windows 2000 Pro, w/essecially the same settings except for the HT and the pagefile.sys. This system has only 512 meg DDR, so the pagefile is running at 766 min/766 max on a second drive.

How about a RAMDrive?

Thx

If you haven't already, under your Performance Options, try setting "Optimize Peformance:" from Applications to Background Services.

When I benchmarked my system, a dual Athlon MP2800+, w/the setting at Applications, I got 1428 Integer/2574 FP. With the setting at Background, it jumped up to 4562 Integer/2574 FP.

I don't deny that it doesn't feel pretty good to see your system(s) up there relative to either being one of the fastest, which none of mine are, or having the most credits, which none of mine have. I don't think anyone doesn't, especially the teamed up people, which I'm not a part of, but to see all that credit just suddenly disappear, it's pretty disappointing, especially not knowing if, and when it's going to happen again.

I've been w/the BOINC-Climateprediction project since August 5th, and had close to some 16 to 17,000 credits acquired, approximately, then the other day, it suddenly dropped to around 6,000, then suddenly up to around 10,000, where it's stayed. As of this morning, I've got around 11,795.

The other issue that's irritating is the fact that whenever you seem to changed anything on your computer(s), you are assigned a new Computer ID. The first time I signed onto BOINC-ClimatePrediction, I was assigned ID 197, if I recall. Now I've got 1027, because I switched OS's on that predicular system, but this isn't that important, to really worry about.

&gt; href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/top_users.php?sort_by=expavg_credit"&gt;top
&gt; &gt; participants by RAC</a> is also skewed by the same figures - so
&gt; something's
&gt; &gt; still amiss somewhere, heh one of them's a Win98 machine.
&gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt;
&gt; There is a small problem with the RAC calculation. The first time credit is
&gt; granted it has no starting point and often comes up with some huge numbers. It
&gt; will come down to more normal levels quickly though.
&gt; <br>John Keck -- BOINCing since 2002/12/08 -- <a> href="http://www.boinc.dk/index.php?page=user_statistics&amp;project=cpdn&amp;userid=191"&gt;<img> border="0" height="80" src="http://191.cpdn.sig.boinc.dk?188"&gt;</a>
&gt;

So is this going to be an on going problem, and are we wasting our computer's time, and electricity, only to have data dumped all the time? Again, I lost well over 10,000 credits. I have only recovered maybe 4,000 at best.

With so many people having lost credits, climateprediction.net should have posted something about it.

Remember, there are a lot of other projects out there that I can donate my computer's time to, and if you don't care, then I don't. I have two on line now, w/two sitting on the the side waiting for memory.

I also must note, that emailing climateprediction.net about this issue resulted in no response to date.

What the sense for staying w/this project, BOINC-ClimatePrediction, if this is going to happen?

Damn, and I just got my multiprocessor system up and running for the BOINC-CimatePrediction project.

I wonder it I should we go back to the old classic ClimatePrediction program????
